NitroM3 Mazda 3 2018 2.5 Automatic

I asked because the computer will adjust everything based on a whole ton of variables and that will change in milliseconds. The fuel injection for example may be lengthened or shortened, the timing of the injection, the number of times the injectors fire in any one cycle is all dependent on the computer and the conditions it measures. That’s just one example.

I do believe that yours does not have the cylinder deactivation. I think the 3 got it in 2019. The CX5 got it in 2018. That would have complicated matters more.

I would be curious how the computer is responding and adapting to your changes.

This would really open the pandora's box to my balance of a fun thread and a technical one. So I will keep it a bit short.

I also will preference responding to you that during my interest and the need to expand my business having to do with some product I offered and needed to be better equipped to handle the aspect of ECI/EFI Calibrating I flew from California to Florida for a week to acquire a certification in ECU/EFI Performance Calibrating. WhileIi only offer the service to a couple of platforms and only a platform that I have full access to the complete ECU tables and don't get into stand alone ECU because it takes hundreds of hours to set them up properly. What does this mean, well I am a ECU/EFI Performance Calibrator and not a "tooner" lol

The description term "adaptive" referring to what an ECU can do on most every ECU is limited and unfortunately often misunderstood and over used in conversations.

Injector fueling is also another term tossed around on forums by many including "toooners" to impress the readers. Less seen are important injector activity like Injector off set, opening delay and a few other highly important information about the injector controlled events? Now specifically on my Mazda until I can read the AFR's (air fuel Ratio) any comments would only be guessing on my part what all is going on when I see monitored using my 11-bit CAN with 105 active cells I can view and data log. Unfortunately unless I add extra input sensors the limitation is only what can read from the ECU at the OBDII diagnostic connector. I have installed a D-Pic and also a temperature gauge that has 3 selection switch to read input from 3 chosen location aftermarket sensors ,i.e. transmission and oil at to points. I don't guess generally on most subjects that I can if need like ECU calibration and study steady State measurements. Back to my Mazda my observation the knock values have the most influence on ECU on the changes I made and watching them they been less active so to say reporting to the ECU. The timing had interestingly changed only in cruise speed plus degree in advanced? I am still looking into this because the Skiactiv MAZDA ECU supposedly is limited programed maximum advance/retard capabilities?
And the current people that offer MAZDA Skiactiv ECU adjusting go "dumb" when I ask simple questions about calibrations pertaining to Skiactiv ECU's. Hence they are "toooners" hahahahaha!
Just a quick look at today info on one page I watch most frequently. I am able to set up 12 pages up to 8 lines of information an can access any page simple push button on the back of monitor. The other 2 conventional gauges are mounted in a custom console mount I made for them. D-Pic and Temperature. The temperature sensor input is controlled by a 3 way switch driver side near the Mazda stability and tire monitoring panel.

I added a couple of gauges but tried to make it look more OE rather then after/thought.
Auto-Meter D-pic and a Temperature gauge.
You can follow the pictures better then a long explanation of what I did.
The step of forming the actual 3d front facia is sorta proprietary. Sorry but gotta keep some things less published. I will say that if any upholster really into fabrication itsa breeze with the correct materials.

I had to assemble a custom wire harness for a Auto meter D-Pic and also the Cobalt temperature transmission gauge . The temperature gauge will have a 3 position switch so I can run between the input of 3 senders for different fluid monitoring.

You are correct. The Mazda3 got CD with 2019 models. The CX-5 got CD with 2018 models.

2018 Mazda 3 GT
Because you have (or had?) a 2018 Mazda 3 GT you might be interested in this?

An old response posted on another forum:
I had the MAZDA officially weigh today. Full tank of gas and everything not connected removed from the interior. This was with no one in the car. It was dead center at 3300LBS The company I used is a CALIFORNIA State and Federal Certified WEIGHMASTER. I was a little surprised considering that MAZDA specification for my Curb weight (lbs) 2,940 (AT ) Naturally CURB weigh can be advertised with or without a full tank of fuel. MAZDA does not indicate which was used for the weighing as in dry or wet curb weight? A full tank of gas is 99 lbs. I know that my *sound deadening material and my stereo system added almost *250lbs. Sooooo...2940 +99 for a full tank of fuel and *250(aprox) = 3290LBS. So close enough to conclude that MAZDA uses DRY weigh method for advertising the vehicles weight specification@ 2940lbs.

Old Post but will correlate with the new spacer I am machining this week

I needed a Throttle body spacer for some nozzles, so I machined up a spacer. After I got all finished I forget to account for the anti drain valve size. Soooooooo back to the metal supply company for another chunk of aluminum and machining up another spacer. I also will machining a o-ring groove so instead of making gaskets I can use OEM MAZDA TB o-ring. A little better way to seal things. Sometime I learn as I go with projects.

I thought I would change it up a bit and show my Stereo upgrade I did. One of the reason for chooses the MAZDA was for the BOSE factory sound system. I thought I would be content with it as is. Nope......... Among other things vehicle related I am a audiophile and love my music. But don't most of us.

To give a little history about why this project.

We purchased the MAZDA in 2018 to be just a daily driver. My wife instructed me in very no uncertain terms that I was not to modify anything on it. Hmm kid in a candy store......I don't and never owned a vehicle I didn't modify with something? And I have owned close to 200 in my life so far. Anyway I loved the body lines and the color was fantastic and it had the latest BOSE system. So I figured I can do my wife's request. Haaaaa ha NOPE!

The first thing about most Mazda's is they do not come with anywhere enough sound deadening materiel. Some of you that own a MAZDA know exactly what I am talking about.

So first order of business. I removed the COMPLETE interior. This also meant the carpet and the headliner which required the removal of the windshield. This was on a new car that had 1.75 miles on the odometer when I purchased it and then for the project less then 5k miles.
I installed FAT MAT on virtually every surface ,doors under dash roof ,trunk complete floor pan, and I am still going to be doing the wheel wells and undercarriage hopefully this summer?
The next thing was a custom install of high quality plush black carpet on top of the factory carpet for extra sound control. Then I said why not , so had my buddy that own an upholstery shop in stall diamond materiel on various places. So it sorta had one of my high School cars the 1955 Chevy 2 door straight axle 396 Tunnel rammed Hot Rod day look. LOL No I am not going through mid life, it what I have done with cars just about my whole life for fun and a great living as well.

Next up was the stereo. Even though BOSE is a great factory sound system it was not giving me that real feel and enjoyment I get as an audiophile and the music I most often now listen to which is Smooth Jazz. But to be clear I have been through many stages of music interest in my life so dot categorize me. My ACDC and Metallica sound just as good to me as , long hair and country music.

So here are the pictures ENJOY!
Oh let me tell you it was a challenge installing the system and still have MAZDA audio control.... what a PIA.... but I prevailed.

First order of any stereo upgrade in the low end response! :D

The MAZDA did not come with a DVD player So mounted one in the glovebox. Also because I used the area that had the USB and other accessories ports I had to relocate them. So in the glove box seemed fitting? Installed 2 extra USB ports for the passenger easy reach next to the seat. Naturally everything got extra LED lights and couple of colors to choose from depending on switch position.

Thank You Dave.
Some of my Automotive business pardoners are located in FL. They keep suggesting I move but man the humidity , not my cup of coffee... LOL

On my gauge project posted earlier in this thread, part of that project was to use a ON-OFF-ON switch to toggle between 2 different temperature senders. This way I am able to monitor my motor oil temperature and my transmission temperature with one gauge.

Also at some point will add an engine oil cooler so I purchased a CHEAP (in all sence of the word) oil filter adapter that has all the pre-drilled and tapped area's. The thing is this part like almost all of this type offered are less then desirable for my standard of a finish product. Understanding how oil flows (Fluid Dynamics) these adapters just sucks for best efficiency. So it just needed a little work to bring it to "better" fluid flowing.

I now have a nicely ported adapter for nice fluid flow

Shot some rattle can Engine Gloss Black..in the oven at 300F for 30 minutes and nice finish that will only be seen when I do an oil filter service under the car. lol

So after 300 miles it looks like the average increase in MPG was .65-.75 mpg increase. And here is the tail pipe clean as a whistle after 300+ miles since activating my bottle. :D

What do you do with an extra MAZDA engine cover?
Well if one day you wake and don't feel like going to work and just want to play with your car toys...

I also made a new cover emblem which will match my front grill emblem eliminating all I.D. badges and emblems identifying my Mazda 3 as a Mazda.
