All this talk about Cartridges! If I had a cartridge I'd invest in the spin-on adapter that the stealer sells. No more worries about stipping that hex nut.

When I talked to the parts manager at my local Mazda dealer about cartridge housing 'issues', he just said he had no idea why anyone even removes the drain plug from the housing. He highly recommended leaving it in place and removing the entire housing just like you would a normal oil filter. It's no different...oil runs down one just like it would the other. If you're changing your own oil, save yourself this step. You're gonna get oil on your hands at some point anyway, so leave the drain plug in. One less o-ring to worry about. Worked great for me on my Speed 6.

I haven't removed my drain plug yet in >30K miles since I bought the 3.

Yeah, I've seen the spin-on but I am not going to do it. It takes me about 15 minutes do to an oil change with a cartridge...it's not difficult.
