There is no graceful return to reality once you put something on such a high pedestal. So many just continue the self delusion.

Be specific, name some names since you keep saying the same thing over and over. You brand bash all the time, so how are you any better? If anything you're worse since you practice what you dislike so much.

Why would I call out any names? These people did not break any forum rules, they just expressed their opinion. I don't take this stuff personally and I don't want to make it personal.

I agree 100%. I also know of one dealer group that offers superior service for every brand- which is one big reason I bought my MS3 from them. Likewise, I have had excellent service from my local BMW dealer- and at a reasonable price.
Having said that, I know of Mazda and BMW dealers that I wouldn't take one of my cars to if they paid me.

When I was researching a VW TDI, the consensus was to avoid dealerships, but that was mid 2000s, perhaps VW dealers got better, perhaps they are more familiar with gas engines or perhaps it's a combination of both.

In any case, it is good to have a good dealer around even if their services are rarely used.

To a point, yes. With respect to actually getting the issue diagnosed and fixed.

However, the dealership also matters. Will they get their techs trained? Or are they more focused on gravy work and selling air rotations and other 3rd party wallet vacuum schemes?

Eh, the VW dealer that replaced the dual mass flywheel on my car was absolutely terrible. They wouldn't call me back, they wouldn't answer the phone, I had to borrow a car to drive across town to them and just show up to check their status. One of the times the car was done and just sitting there for a while.
