Nothing wrong with M1. I too was a little harsh on M1 5w30 until I changed the oil of a friend's car who left the M1 5w30 in his sump for 12k miles. Of all the 10k+ miles used oils I've seen, his was the best. Better than even GC.

I can't totally discount the actual test/findings in that Pennzoil document. I'm sure the Pennzoil product is very good.

That said, the real results may be opposite!

We have to consider that there was a book published years ago, "How To Lie With Statistics".

I don't see dead Corvettes clogging the shoulders of the roads from using M1.

Gary's right, there is a lot of M1 loyalist, defenders, etc. and I'm glad I'm not one of them. With that said I am a long time user of M1 oils(32 years) and have never had an issue with their oils. I have had many high mileage engines that stay very clean with M1 oils. You'll be just fine.

There is a Corvette owner here, Patman, who has been using PP 5w30 and getting excellent UOA results. He does take it to the strip, so I can say with some degree of certainty that he doesn't drive it like an old lady.

FWIW.
YMMV.

I believe there was a flaw with M1 for a certain period of time for reasons unknown.

Then you must consider 11.85 secs at 123 MPH in the quarter mile driving like "an old lady"? Yep, and I will go faster once I get my 60' times down. OBTW, that's on a pure stock 08 Z06 with the awful runflats on em, on a cold day with high humidity. My oil? Amsoil 5w30. I'm sure I am okay.

good show, NewC6, get that girl to the strip and practice that launch!

Pay no attention to the old school around here. Thick oil is a 'blast from the past' and hardly relevant anymore.

Corvette owner here with a 2006 C6 convertible. The Corvette racing team uses M1 5w30 right out of the same jug you can buy at Wal Mart. Tour the Corvette factory and Museum in Bowling Green Ky sometime and you'll see a history of Mobil working hand in hand with GM engineers to meet Corvette's lubrication needs. While M1 is not the only oil that meets GM4718m, it has a LONG history of continuous performance. For my money, I see no reason to use anything else.

I have a 2002 Camaro Z28 with the LS1.
I have owned it since new, and filled it with M1 5w30 always.
Over the last 8 years I have done at least 10 track days a year with it, averaging about 2 hours each day. That makes the equivalent of nearly 7 24-hour races under conditions much more severe than drag racing.
The car is also my winter car and has 147,000 miles on it.
I change the oil according to the OLM and have never had a problem

What's this about old ladies putting 5w30 in their Corvettes?

Welcome to BITOG!
M1 5-30 meets some many tough specs including the Honda HTO-06 high heat turbo spec.
