Mobil 1 EP 5w30 In All My Vehicles

Grade for grade, the ESP oils tend to be more shear stable but not quite as long drain capable as the EP IMO. Mobil boosts the AO levels for the EP line for the extended drain. ESP 5w30 is more shear stable than Mobil 1 EP 5w30 and may offer better wear protection being the HT/HS is 3.53.
Got me considering ESP 5w-30 as it is now available at WalMart and AutoZone and others. I'd never probably go over 8k, definitely not over 10k on an OC. I'm not sure even if 10k is considered an extended interval.

The Canyon and Silverado use an OLM. The VW actually calls for 10k OCI. The Mazda 3 has OLM and can can max out at 10k.

So to finish up if I were to use ESP 5w-30, seeing as it is a thick 5w30, would that pose any issues? Any effect on fuel economy would be negligible.

I'd go for the ESP as well. No issues at all.

Oh, so you imply that they just need to fill out paperwork …
Taxi’s have been used for PoP testing for decades …
Pretty much. Sponsor a couple of race cars, hand out jackets and hats, wine and dine the right people and you get your validation.
The additive companies do the heavy lifting. Use this additive package with that base oil and vola, BMW long life 101.

Ive switched back to 5W40 for the summer, but I had Mobil 1 5w30 ESP in my mk7 GTI earlier this year when I money-shifted into 2nd gear from the redline in 3rd at like 80mph and my engine didn't blow up so it gets my stamp of approval based on that alone

Mobil/Shell own the additive company in this case, so "the additive company doing the heavy lifting" is the same bloody company/companies. They also have the benefit of being able to develop tailored additive packages for their own specific products.

The approvals have a suite of tests that have to be passed, you can't just give somebody a reach-around to get it.

That’s what I was thinking, but to keep it PG-13 for polite society, I posted race car sponsorship, jackets, hats, wine and dine instead.
When there’s more than one solution to a problem, the simplest one is correct.

While there is a large similarity between brands that are using similar components, there are differences.

As you can see from my signature I have 4 vehicles I service. My two trucks, wifes Jetta and sons Mazda. Canyon calls for 5w30, all others 0w20.

2022 GMC Canyon High Elevation 3.6L
2023 Mazda3 2.5L Skyactive
2021 Chevy Silverado RST 5.3
2020 Jetta 1.4L R-Line

I could make OC's a little simpler by just using one oil across the board. I like Mobil 1 EP because it has a little more group IV base oils than others.

The Jetta calls for vw 508.00 0w20 but at the M1 EP formulation seems to be very similar to the ESP line from my reading here.

I'm considering just using M1 EP 5w-30 across the board. I like a little more viscosity. I live in Eastern NC, summers can be brutal, winters not so much. What do you guys think?

Keep it simple: use it or the ESP 0w30. Problem solved

...as long as you are aware that possibly two of your vehicles won't be using a Dexos 1 Gen 3 licensed product...I don't know if there is any way you could be denied a warranty claim by GM but either of your two engines shouldn't specifically need those specific approvals

good luck with your choice...

Bill

If you must have one, ESP 0W-30 is readily available at Walmart now and would be my choice over EP 5W-30.
M1 0W30 ESP 5 qrt. Jugs available all day long at WM at a good price but M1 5W30 ESP only available in expensive qrt. bottles … Where would M1 0W30 ESP fall short in performance compared to M1 5W 30 ESP ?

Tell me about the free hat and jacket you got with your last HPL purchase.

I prefer M1 EP 10W-30 over M1 EP 5W-30 if your winters are within the 10W range. Less vm and lower Noack! And yet to see it burn in any of our cars. A bit pricey too for having no exotic European approvals! lol

Only thing Dave sent me was some gun CLP and that was 3 orders ago. No fancy letter jacket or hat unfortunately ;)

I do have some sweet Mobil 1 merch though! Including a hat and T-shirt.
Well that sucks. Look what all those
“Make Amsoil Great Again” hats are doing for their business.
After spending $12,000 over a few years at a certain John Deere dealership I asked for a free hat and was told that $500,000 tractors don’t come with free hats.

Last month I bought a Kubota lawn tractor and got a free hat without asking.

Wow that.
