Mobil 1 EP 5w30 In All My Vehicles

When comparing M1 5W30 EP vs. M1 5W30 ESP for a 5K max OCI : Both oils will keep an engine clean . ESP is more shear stable but with a shorter 5K mile max OCI it may be a wash against long drain EP . M1 EP is longer drain but for a 5K max OCI it doesn’t matter as compared to M1 ESP . Does ESP produce less potential intake valve deposits over 5K miles vs. EP ? … I’m not sure . By being C3 rated , the M1 ESP has a higher HT/HS of at least 3.5 while M1 EP is around 2.9 to 3.0 .

* My main curiosity is is weather M1 ESP produces less intake valve deposits over 5K miles vs. M1 EP , is M1 ESP being more sheer stable to make a difference at a 5K mile OCI vs. longer drain EP and lastly - does M1 ESP having an HT/HS of 3.5 make much of a wear numbers difference over the 2.9 to 3.0 HT/HS of the M1 EP for up to a 5K mile OCI ?

**Full disclosure : 1) My Hyundai 2.4L GDI never sees more than a 3,500 mile OCI now with M1 5W 30 EP and 2) I buy M1 5W 30 EP for a short OCI because at WM I get it for only $2 more than vanilla M1 5W30 (better additives with EP version ).

Well that sucks. Look what all those
“Make Amsoil Great Again” hats are doing for their business.
After spending $12,000 over a few years at a certain John Deere dealership I asked for a free hat and was told that $500,000 tractors don’t come with free hats.

Last month I bought a Kubota lawn tractor and got a free hat without asking.

Wow that.
The local John Deere Tractor stores , Campbell Tactors has several outstanding and in my opinion impressive stores in the area gives me hats when I go in with my neighbor to get his tractor parts. They even let me sit in the $500,000.00 tractors. Not as good as a Boeing 747 but close to a semi truck.

As a super expert who has developed motor oils, only a 60k mile engine teardown, borescoping, analysis, and conclusive report can answer these questions.

in your area a 10-30 fake synthetic aka group III would be more protective IMO!! the motor oil geek recently noted that GM's dexos approvals are costlier than most making those oils costlier$$$

Grade for grade, the ESP oils tend to be more shear stable but not quite as long drain capable as the EP IMO. Mobil boosts the AO levels for the EP line for the extended drain. ESP 5w30 is more shear stable than Mobil 1 EP 5w30 and may offer better wear protection being the HT/HS is 3.53.
Oh you drive a Hyundai / Kia GDI engine the ESP 0W30 found at WM is probably the best oil on the shelf . I did not utilize the more expensive EP 5W30 long drain characteristics with OCI’s of only 3000 / 4000 miles in my GDI engine . I notice slightly faster warm up with the ESP 0W30 and my engine sounds / feels better as I go through the gears (especially north of 4000 RPM’s) with the higher HTHS of 3.5 . The ESP 0W30 has MB and VW specs that exceed EP 5W30 (except long drain) , so as long as shorter OCI’s in mixed driving are what you do - then the ESP 0W30 oil at WM for $27 is a great value . Add a Fram Ultra or Endurance oil filter from WM and your good to go …

Mobil/Shell own the additive company in this case, so "the additive company doing the heavy lifting" is the same bloody company/companies.
Mobil doesn't use Infineum additives nearly as much as people here think, so this isn't always the case. I used to think it was too.

And you know this because you work at Mobil or Infineum and can vouch for that being the case?

Not saying that's not possible, but I'd like to see some evidence that supports the claim.

If the industry insider here that shared it with me wants to chime in, then they'll chime in.

Havoline Pro-ds 10w30 in all of them.
While a decent historical choice - I believe most 10W30 oils are using base stocks that may barely meet the spec , using older formulated 10W30 oils , etc. while the M1 5W30 / 0W30 EP & ESP oils are using better quality base stocks and more modern formulations meeting more stringent specs .

Got me considering ESP 5w-30 as it is now available at WalMart and AutoZone and others. I'd never probably go over 8k, definitely not over 10k on an OC. I'm not sure even if 10k is considered an extended interval.

The Canyon and Silverado use an OLM. The VW actually calls for 10k OCI. The Mazda 3 has OLM and can can max out at 10k.

So to finish up if I were to use ESP 5w-30, seeing as it is a thick 5w30, would that pose any issues? Any effect on fuel economy would be negligible.
First , WM only stocks the M1 0W30 ESP (not the 5W30 ESP) for $27 per 5 qrt. jug. I have noticed only the upside in a smoother running engine (especially at higher RPM’s) using the 0W30 ESP and no difference in gas mileage from the previous 5W30 EP I used . If you plan to keep the vehicles in your stable long then I’d go with 5000 mile / 6 month OCI’s (for HyunKia GDI engine vehicles then 3000 - 4000 mile / 6 month OCI’s).
