Looking for less restrictive option to AC PF61E

Before I tear into this motor more, I want to try another filter that's proven to be less restrictive than the AC filters.

My lifter tick in the 4.2 I6 has been hanging around and I want to speculate an oil delivery issue.

I have a few truck centers near me so a Donaldson would likely be available, AC cross ref is a P550505.

Are there other filters I could try? I hear K&N has a decent filter in regards to flow but how do they compare to the Donaldson?

Go with a full synthetic like a Fram Ultra.

My bet is no matter what filter you use, the lifter tick will still be there - I'm assuming a lifter tick well after start-up. Engines with positive displacement oil pumps don't care if one filter is a bit more restrictive than the other.

My Jeep ticks too (they are famous for it) and no filter has made a whit of difference. At start up you bet, but running tick, no.

Neither my 2003 Trailblazer, nor my 1996 Cherokee XJ ticks on startup. I run cheap filters on the XJ, but the Trailblazer usually gets a PF61 classic. I have an XG3675 ready to go on in a few hundred more miles.

Well, to be honest, I don't know it it's a tick, tap, knock, slap....heck, could be an exhaust leak.

First off, the oil pressure gauges in the GMT360, ie, envoy, trailblazer, etc, don't depict the true pressure with the I6, maybe the V8 but generally the pressure is around 40 PSI indicated at idle and a little more when revved, slighyly more when cold.

What I do know is with the 61E, my needle is slightly below the 40 PSI mark which is where it has always been at idle and I have checked the pressure with a quality Matco gauge and I have 80+ PSI when cold at a fast idle, settles back down to 25 when hot......this is PRE filter media...so what's possibly happening after the media?

The gremlin noise goes away at about 1500 RPM give or take so that's why I Want To At Least Try A Different filter and go from there.

At low RPM, the delta-p across the filter will be very small ... probably 1~2 PSI at the most. So the oil pressure after the filter will be 1~2 PSI less than before the filter. At 1500 RPM and hot oil, the oil pump isn't anywhere near pressure relief, so all the oil that leaves the pump goes through the filter & engine. If there is a pump volume problem, then the pump could be getting weak. No filter in the world will make any difference in that situation.
