Korean Parents try Chicago Hot dogs and Italian Beef for the First Time

That would be a death wish for me, but I’d still eat one… on a rare occasion.
My girlfriend is Italian, and whenever she visits, she brings her own ingredients and spends most of her time in the kitchen. 👩‍🍳
If you ever make it north to the greater Phoenix area, there are at least three Portillos. I have visited Portillos in Tempe, North Scottsdale, and Goodyear (or town just east of Goodyear). I also visited the Portillos in Tucson.

Really enjoyable food/meal.

I will do just that because we don’t have anything like that here in Lizard Spit. 🦎
I get up there occasionally when I do my Mayo Clinic two-step.

I hit up Portillos when I find one.

There is one in Springfield, IL. It's a bit out of the way, but on some of my Decatur trips, I take the detour and get a couple of Chicago dogs.

Never been to Portillos but I have stopped off at Devil Dawgs in Chicago. It was convenient since it was right under my daughters apartment building in south loop. Devil Dawgs hot dogs looks very similar to the ones shown in the video.

Like every chain that proliferates far beyond their home turf these days, Portillo's is up on price and down on quality (and charm). Visiting Portillo's in the Houston suburbs (and soon to be north of San Antonio) isn't the same as the old two-story experience on Ontario St. on Chicago's north side.

Chains like Portillo's, Culver's, Five Guys, Whataburger, used to be part of what was special about visiting a particular state or region. Now they're all just another place to eat across the street from McDonald's, B-K, Applebee's and Chili's...no matter where you are.

I for one am glad Primanti Bros. has largely remained in the Pittsburgh/Western PA region. It's a must-stop when in the area...like when attending Carlisle.

Pimanti Bros are all over Pa. In fact if you go to Carlisle there is one nearby in Camp Hill. About 5 in a 35 mile radius or so of Carlisle. They are in WV, MD and OH Not just western Pa anymore Great food!!

The two Portillo's locations in California are random as heck. One in Moreno Valley, which is a fairly large city in Riverside County that I'm guessing most people in the US never heard of. The other is in Buena Park, less than a mile from Knott's Berry Farm. I'd note that the ethnic Korean makeup of Buena Park is over 12% of the population.

I have been two both of the Portillo's in California.

Tasty treat!! Italian beef is the number one thing to try at Portillo's. Next is the hot dog. Next is the Polish sausage, and then the Italian sausage.

Bet you don’t miss the Chicago neighborhoods that they usually require to find one… I know I don’t miss the Chiraqi suburbs now that I’ve been gone for awhile. I much prefer never having to be there again… it’s insanity.
There was one in the suburb near where I used to live. That area was just fine.
