New to me vehicle: 2018 Toyota Sequoia

Good idea on spraying some areas with some rust preventative as mentioned above especially the running boards, trailer hitch, door bottoms, etc. Someone posted an old Land Cruiser for sale on here a few days ago with some rusty areas. Which would show you were to focus on.

I remember test driving a first Gen when they first came out. Really liked how maneuverable it was for such a big SUV.
CO is very dry. Car looks good right now. So we will see, I might do it once I get other stuff square off. I need snow tires as we went from summer to winter overnight. I have two other cars on snow tires, but I need to get tires out of the way fast.
As for maneuverability, it actually feels like it has a tighter turning radius than Tiguan we have (it is known for having a wide radius, though). To have such large vehicle that turns so tightly, is really practical.

The 3rd row in the new Sequoia is horrible. My Pilot has more room, seriously.

When we went to NY Auto show I was shocked how poor that was, like old regular Highlander size it seemed.

We look often at the new full size SUV's, always miss the '03 Sequoia. Wife would take that back anytime if it wasn't rotting away.

Good luck with it. TundraSolutions was the main site I was on back then and some ToyotaNation. Since it was shared platform with the Tundra they had all the problems/fixes etc.

If hoping to keep it, consider FluidFilm or Woolwax to get everything coated.

Back then Eaton was making the limited slip diffs for TRD to buy optional and have installed. I wanted it but $$ and priorities. All the places I took it there was really only 1-2 times I was looking for more than the brake activated traction control covered. 4Lo, center diff lock, good tires took care of beach, gravel, light mud to hunting. I think ARB also had kits so you could go full locked front and rear.
New Sequoia is horrid. It looks excellent from the outside, but IMO, absolutely nowhere close in quality for the price they are asking. If I could get away without big 3rd row seat or huge trunk, I would buy BMW X7. It has far better engine, transmission and although it is milder hybrid than Sequoia it uses less gas.
2nd. generation Sequoia has hard plastic, etc., which is fine. When it was new, it was not expensive for what it offered, and hard plastic in vehicle like that, in that price range is fine. The New Sequoia is not any better; seats are flimsy, and plastic is everywhere, but they increased the price bcs. of an image of old Sequoia. I mean you could get 2nd generation Platinum for like $60,000 brand new, now same trim goeas for like $80,000.
When I was searching for 2nd gen. no one wants to negotiate. The listing price is what it is. But they were quick to offer me new Sequoia that is brand new or slightly used and take off $5-6000 off the listing price or more.

The previous generation Sequoia is an ancient dinosaur that even in its current model year lacks way behind the competion and you still pay dearly for them.

My son's girlfriend bought a brand new Sequoia. He is buying radio control knobs in bulk. Yea - what I said.....

It's called the Toyota tax. I get "If ya wanna sell" notes left on the windshield regularly. And people walking up cold, "How much ya askin'?"

I will not be considering a current-generation Tundra for all the same reasons. It's nowhere near worth what they are charging and I'll drive a CRV before I pay $80K for a pickup truck. Factor in the issues with the engine and nope...Toyota lost me in this segment.

I really don't understand who they made that vehicle for.
People like my son's girlfriend- she bought it because " its a Toyota". When he loads it up with kids stuff, two dogs, etc , there isn't alot of room. I told her before she purchased it a Suburban or an Expedition would be a far better choice. I have been in third row of that Sequoia and its not comfortable. The seat has inadequate padding because thats where the battery pack is .On the plus side the Hybrid powertrain is seamless.

Mine and all of that Gen had a poorly sealed seam so salt/moisture got in by the rear door fender/dog leg. Rotted from inside out seemingly almost overnight. Got to sharp edges where you got in and out. It also had recall for frame rot though mine "passed" so they just sprayed with a version of woolwax/cosmoline.

All the salt they use here in north east just killed everything underneath. Brake lines were looking questionable, dust shields gone, exhaust etc. It was a sad day but everytime I did something rust chunks were falling.

Definitely consider the spray sooner than later.

Yep. I had that regularly with our old 3rd gen 4Runner. I finally did sell it to some guy who knew what it was, approached me at a gas station, and paid a ridiculous amount of money to buy it. Now we have a nearly 5 year old 4Runner, that Carmax just offered more than it's MSRP was. About 8k more than we paid for it almost 5 years ago. Despite that, I haven't decided to sell...

I'm going to tell Carmax that there's a guy on a website I post on, who doesn't like the seats, and never fails to mention it... :ROFLMAO:

She can put two dogs and stuff in it? My VW Atlas had far, FAR more space than current Sequoia.

I advise to change the coolant ASAP. Finding out now that Toyota coolant over 5 years old eats the head gaskets.

No worries. It also only has 5200 miles on it. I do test the coolant pH on our vehicles periodically. I'm also a former Toyota and various independents Master Tech.

Yeah, I heard the same. Then I tested both the Tundra and RX 350 at 5 and 6 years old, and both were basically like new.
