New to me vehicle: 2018 Toyota Sequoia

Thousands of failed Toyota head gaskets is evidence. Provide evidence that it won't. I wouldn't risk a $100 coolant change on a expensive engine. It's your engine your choice....

Coolant PH test does not work in this case. its some chemical reaction thats taking place...

good luck

I'm well aware of what can happen to metals when coolant is allowed to become acidic. And that differences in corrosion rates can occur in bi-metal engines. I've stayed apprised of what is happening in the consumer car repair world, including Toyota. I still have many friends in that line of work.

Thanks for the concern, but I'm not worried. If I decide to change our 5200 mile old coolant, I can get the Toyota SLLC for dealer cost.

Never seen such a place where people are willing to risk thousands of dollars to save a few pennies on regular Maintenace
I’m not instigating, I simply asked a question, because who the heck are you? Relax! You’ll live longer.

I have a coworker with a 2016 Toyota Tacoma. He paid cash for it in 2016. I begged him for years to maintain it. He finally changed the coolant and trans fluid but it's too late. He has head gasket leaking now and a slipping trans. All due to lack of Maintenace. Newer vehicles today including Toyotas and Honda are high Maintenace now.

Its 6 years old coolant. Id change it. RELAX. I am sure Toyota will fix it for free if it fails....

The point you're missing is that I'm well aware of what I have. I was well-trained and have/had lots of experience in that line of work. These days I consult on professional racing vehicles. You apparently only have anecdotes from somewhere, as you haven't given any specific evidence to back-up your statement.

For the record, the vehicle and the factory-fill coolant in it are just under five years old, and the vehicle has 5200 miles on it.

For what you need, i think it's an excellent choice. Wishing you many years of safe, reliable motoring.

I am not doubting you expertise. but Toyota is just now finding out things 10 years later themselves. sometimes it takes years to see problems arise.

Congratulations on the Seqoia.I made a comment in your original thread about the brakes and agree with your assessment. I also agree they have a relaxed feel and good turning radius. Lots of people complaint about the steering but I don't mind it. For relaxed type driving it is fine, and I think road feel is fine for a truck. It is ertainly better than some other cars I have driven.

While the fuel mileage isn't great, I regularly rent other trucks and it's not that much worse than others. The last truck I rented was a Hemi Ram and it was maybe 10% better than my Tundra. One thing I did note was the Rams calculated MPG were way off, very optimistic.

The biggest downfall to these trucks is the rust. Even though you are a dry state, I'd still recommend rust proofing. Fluid Film, Krown, etc will be very beneficial to keeping the undercarriage rust free.

It is not that. IMO, design is bigger issue. That small hole on gasket is bigger issue and that is where issues are stemming from.
Also, I highly doubt it is thousands of vehicles. Where did you get that number?

With that funky lug pattern wheels are a little harder to come by. But my dad is very happy with R18 Land Cruiser take-offs on his 2011 Tundra 4.6L.

I have an 07 4.7 Tundra and just turned over 364,000 miles...doesn't burn oil and drives great. OCI every 6k to 7k with whatever synthetic 5w-30 is on sale. The engine amazes me at its durability. Only issue has been the air injection pump...they fail with great regularity. Three times...first two covered by warranty and good will warranty...but last one was on me... $2100...ouch.

The dealership installed brand new rotors and pads, so I won't do any monkey business with that until they vibrate (I am expecting that) or the pads need to be changed.
So it was Toyota discs and pads? If so I'm surprised you wouldn't slap some EBC discs at least. I know you like them, right?
