It won't matter, the engine doesn't dictate the MAF or MAP, that's handled by the ECM and if your car is MAP, then it isn't looking for a signal from a MAF, it's operating based on engine vacuum to infer load.

One thing I'll add, if you do end up swapping the ECM, it needs to be for a car that's also MAP, as a MAF car will definitely have different wiring. The response from the shop wasn't overly confidence inspiring on the ECM swap. I'm surprised they didn't offer to just change the base table in your ECM to match the 2.0L one, that's the only "tune" you'd really need if you can't swap the ECM.

Okay..... Alright, The first question I have (might as well just go with it) is why the Subaru people just told me about a MAF.

Let me repeat back to you what YOU are saying, ... You are saying, THERE ISN'T A MAF IN THAT CAR.

yes, go read the links I shared above, they talk about Subaru going from MAF to MAP. It seems to be a confusion point for some of the Subie folks for whatever reason 🤷‍♂️

Glad you noticed that as well. They basically just did a "Sorry, can't help ya."

I'm almost tempted to just buy some computer interface cables, get whatever let's it plug in to USB, and do it myself.

I already know I'm gonna see MAP stuff but I'm gonna go look anyways.

I honestly wonder if Imprezas were different.

EJ20, EJ25 = EJ family.
EJ22 = EG architecture..
Some are DOHC some are SOHC..
Hilarity ensues.

Yes, I'm not soothed by the dismissal there, we've already covered in detail why if it is MAP it will potentially fuel dilute, shrugging that off because it "runs fine" isn't doing the engine any favours.
 
Oh and the oil doesn't look AS Powerstroke-ish.

One moment, I have a jam packed 15 minutes before I drive.. Work has found the "All hands on deck" button so things are looking up....
 
I have the coin in the next week or so to get a scan tool that can do Fuel trims. ???

They might tell you, would be better to datalog it with a wideband though. Does your buddy at the shop not have the ability to read them?

Quick question, isn't the standard "ghetto" response in fuel dilution is to go up a grade?

He is always talking about Wideband O2s, it funny you should say that.

Then he told me not to get that cammed EJ25.

I think he probably can, he just feels he isn't going to get a lot of money or doesn't want to invest the time.

He also knows about tunes because I think I told you about 4 times, he has the boost on his Supercharged 5. (? 07 300) turned WAY up. Like 15-18lbs.
 
If I don't go out and look at the Subie plumbing now I never will.
