That, honestly I have no idea and do not know. CRUISE

I DO have to run the idea of trying the other ECU past the guy, it has been expressed to me "It may not work at all," it was also said on here "For $60 try and see."

It was suggested, by myself, to get a hold of Subaru specialty shop who should be able to advise you on that. Have you not done that yet? Seems like a very basic and very easy first step in getting that resolved.

I do actually recall this.

I wonder what the title of the shop I should be looking for is. "Speed shop?" "Import specialist?" "Tuner"? I would start with Craigslist maybe... The guy that put it in keeps on telling me "The JDM people say it is a drop-in swap" so.. I could mention to him about reprogramming the fuel part, he told me that the cammed engine "wouldn't run right" and you have to take it to a dyno place, sign a disclaimer that if your car grenades on the dyno that's on you, then pay a LOT for a dyno run.. all that isn't tuning the ECU but I'm just sorting through and selecting what to remember.

I come here because while I do feel like that guy does good work (on Subarus) I think he is ultimately chasing a paycheck as well.

* i only mention the cammed engine because it was suggested to go JDM at that time,.. if I mentioned the high priced high mileage junky EJ25s that live around here.

Google?

Here's one of the first hits:

The next time I turn the key to Ignition and I think it is supposed to turn all the lights on the dash on I can go see.

May go do that now, actually.

Hmmm, yeah a bulb must have fell down.

Bulb Check?

The "Cruise" light isn't part of the bulb check on any of our cars (neither is the fuel light). The Camry (I just checked) tests check engine, oil pressure, power steering fault, battery, TPMS, traction control/VSC fault and off, ABS, washer fluid, maintenance required, brake, ECO, and airbag. My guess is that it's just a burned-out bulb. If the cruise works fine, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just be a bit more careful when using it.

Dag babbitt, just when I thought I had it figured out too.

RazorsEdge, how do I check a cruise bulb?

This isn't a great photo but you can see that it's not testing the cruise light. All the yellow lights on the left are TRAC/VSC stuff and Check Engine.

Now you're going to make me go look, naturally no Subaru in sight though.

FWIW 1 "Cruise" is not listed in the 2002 Subaru Owners manual as a light that comes on during bulb check

FWIW 2 In fact there is no mention in my admittedly somewhat hasty perusal of said manual of any "cruise" light except on the button itself in said manual.

Yes point 1 is is there supposed to be a cruise light in the cluster at all?

After making absolutely certain that point 1 is true, point 2 would be do you have the proper cluster, or one from another trim variant that did not have cruise? Note these might even use the same front plate with icons, but the bulb or LED behind the "cruise" icon may not be installed, or not even a place for one.

Ask them about buying the $60 ECU, explain to them your situation and see what they say.
So, OP, did you do this? Or at least set up the account on the Subaru forum to ask folks there? Are you being proactive about this?

While I doubt an old Subaru ecu will sell this weekend, it will sell at some point. So if it can be reprogrammed, and it’s available at a good price, and folks think it might help, you need to work up your plan...
