I love combination microwave-convection ovens the best. In truth Hyundai got better when they bought KIA, which had better reliability statistics than Hyundai..... AND Porsche, at the time.

It is interesting that Kia now manufactures more cars than hyundai

I think Hyundai/KIA did great move when they poached bunch of engineers from BMW. They figured that they could distinguish themselves a bit from this appliance crowd. Toyota had this great opportunity with Lexus IS, but then I guess it became too exciting for them during 1st gen. when they realized average age of Lexus driver drop from 115 to 85 due to single model. So, they went back to usual ways.
This move by Hyundai/KIA with G70 and Stinger is admirable. Anyone looking into Lexus IS over KIA Stinger or G70 is making big mistake.
The question is whether they will stay consistent with it, meaning whether next generation will offer more analog driving experience over Lexus or even now European manufacturers here in US? Audi and BMW gave up pretty much on stick shift with new models here in US (not in Europe), and there is opportunity to grab some customers here.

My mom's Kia Spectra was flawless. Drove it 200K miles and then sold it to a friend of my dad's, daughter and she put 100K on it before rolling it in an accident.

For decades, Honda cost thousands of dollars more than Hyundai. Matter of fact, Honda sales-people don't even talk to you, if you won't pay retail or above. Less than 20 years ago, Hyundais sold for $6000. Even in 2009, one dealer was selling Hyundai Accents for $14,000. Did I say Accents? Yes, I did.... two Accents for $14,000.

early ones were cheap + crappy, today not so much + likely similar to most others still at better pricing.

One fellow took his Ford Festiva (KIA body, tiny Mazda motor) to the junkyard..... after 600,000 miles.

Maybe sarcasm?
I merely lobbed back his previous post about a link I supplied. Evidently Brigadier can't tell the difference between facts and opinion:

Toyota unintended acceleration, Ford faulty cruise controls that burned down at least one garage, Ford Pinto faulty gas tank, Ford's 6.0 self destructing diesels, Chevy Cobalt recalls (too many to list). You can find these from every car maker...... you get the picture

No-it doesn't make them OK. It makes them no different. I plucked down 30 large for one a year and a half ago (2017 Santa Fe XL-Limited). I wouldn't have done it unless I thought they were safe and reliable. And I could have purchased a Honda or Toyota-or any car in it's class.

That makes no sense. No one buys anything they believe or know is unsafe. Who'd buy a Pinto if they knew it would cremate them because Ford decided to pay the lawsuits by survivors because doing so was cheaper than paying for the design fix?

No one, which led to the Pinto's demise even after Ford checked the sofa for change and fixed the gas tanks.

Hyundai/Kia claim they don't know why their engines could turn occupants into human torches. Gimme a break. Their cars aren't being made by children in a dilapidated garage with the roof caving in.

But I'm glad you're happy.

Most of that is hype...it took the Japanese makes decades to get a good rep, the Korean makes did it seemingly overnight. No manufacturer improves that much that fast...

It does not help that they literally copied/paste central console from new BMW's in Telluride.

More sour grapes......

Anyone with any intellectual integrity will admit most cars look pretty much the same these days....

They hired a guy from BMW so that is where that came from.

Really, like literally same central console? I highly doubt BMW or BMW buyer will have sour grapes over KIA.

That is engineering part, and considering Telluride, there is nothing in common with Stinger etc. It is FWD based SUV.
Also, just because someone moves from one company to another (Valter De Silva did that Giugaro etc.) does not mean you copy someone else's design. Copyright is with company, not designer.
