Hotels

Why didn't you look there first?

How big was it?

I didn't see it on the nightstand, so I looked around the nightstand, and saw it on the floor, under a used condom. I didn't touch anything. I called the front desk on MY phone, and said I needed a new, CLEAN room. They came to the room, saw the issue, and apologized profusely.

I didn't get close enough to gauge the size of the condom, the TV remote, and the previous slovenly pig room occupants, weren't around to answer any questions.

At least we know it wasn't AutoMechanic....

My luck they would have wiped the remote with a dirty rag and handed it to me

The front desk clerk actually picked them up with his bare hands, which exposed the contents to the air. The stench was incredible...

If you're ever at the Best Western near Zion National Park, beware.

Of course its the hot time of year for Florida so I'm seeing some great house vacay rentals... trust me Florida has nothing on Maryland as far as weather..

I remember a lady friend i had living in the bowels of Baltimore told her fellow nurse friends she had to get out of Baltimore because it was too hot 🔥 she was leaving Maryland and the whole staff were confused 😆 🤣
I was in Florida in August and it was hot but seemed like nothing as the humidity was low...

I was on vacation a couple weeks ago in Orlando. It was cooler there than home 🤣

I have watched way too many old movies.
Think back to the golden days with posh NY Hotels that cost a fortune.
I was booking a house rental in Florida. Very few left for this last minute trip.
The one I wanted on Bookings had the owner completely do herself in and was clueless.

Typed in the ad was don't run through my house, we love our house, do respect it and
on and on and on. Don't put glasses on my antique tables etc.
When I rent something and leave you never know I was there-period. You don't even need the cleaning
service you charged me $300 for. Truth... And remove your antique tables lady...geez

After that I got a hotel.... I tried to pick a nice one but I'm not after the best of the best and am frugal on
stuff like that. But bigger than normal and nice.

Gone are the glorious hotels of the movies and they weren't in rural America anyway.
So I went over and punched in luxury hotels in NYC.... Expecting the most expensive-period.
I just did it to look at the room pictures.
I don't want to mention why as we know why but NY Hotels are dirt cheap. I guess our current situation
killed them. Prices were cheaper than a Super 8.... wow.... crazy..................

Remember the oil tycoons of a century past getting those $5000 rooms?
The definition of Luxury can mean alot of things to alot of people. There are very nice hotels still around. Keep in mind back in the "black and white movie days" hotels were typically for business and travel. It was rare for a family to rent a hotel. If you add in air fare then whew, you needed another job.

I get very nice houses cheaper than hotels...but you have to do your homework. I agree with what you said though. It just costs too much to live these days...

I worked for a Best Western Plus for seven years. The owners put alot of money into the property. My biggest complaint is that it took way too long for BW to differentiate the differences between the properties ie 2,3,4 diamond rated. The property was built in the 60's and it made it difficult to work on due to the age. The owners were kind of penny pinchers which helped out during the pandemic. Econo Lodges seemed to be really hit or mis in quality. I've seen a few that were really sketchy.
BW near Flagler beach is at a premium the last few years...I'm thinking of checking it out next month... guessing it has been revamped...

In No Particular Order:
This has been a very interesting thread.
1-BYOB (Bring Your Own Bedding) isn't a new concept. How much worse housekeeping is now-a-days is another question
2- Now that you mention it, I'd prefer tiled floors every time.
THE BEST hotel room...Rome... had been a tiled, outdoor sitting space...they roofed it. The quiet fountain was in my room.
3- Aren't restaurants in hotels called, "coffee shops"?
4- Let's work with Mother Earth and make fewer disposable. plastic bottles.
They pollute the earth to make and continue to pollute after they're discarded.
Just like Jeep ducks.

Personal Extremes:
1- Smelliest room: Motel 6 in No. California. I think someone died in our room with time before discovery
2- Smallest room: An airline worker hotel called, "Jet" in Vienna
3- Fastest rejected room: A kiddy's treehouse in No. California. Even though a jug of water and paper cups were provided
4- Newest: named for the corner of Sts. Antione + Pierre in Q.C.'s Vieux Port, a perfectly done room.
5- Best Value: The older, non-modernized rooms offered by Scottish Inns in Canada
6- Prettiest Loc.: a 1930's mom & pop string of shacks on Lake Superior (Michigan) nr Mackinac Bridge
7- Most Useful Loc.: Days Inn on Connecticut Ave., Wash. D.C.
8- "Socially Odd": Seattle, WA 8 floors up watching drive up drug deals...forget the big chain name
9- "Socially Odd but Cool": A no name motel in Boise, ID. People sitting outside, casually drinking heavily...all friendly
10- Least Value (surprisingly dear)- A nicely 'done-up' HOSTEL in Oslo. It looked like a tall windowed, British library
11- Most Unusual: The ship hostel in Stockholm
12- Most Unique: A tannery was converted to rooms in No. Sweden. The floor was the rocks used to pound the color into leather
13- Most Conflicting: A true luxury tower in H'fors with 2 floors reserved for backpackers
14- Best Value Luck-Out: an unplanned stop in Chicago...big name...give-a-way price

I have stayed at a lot of posh hotels on other peoples dime - work things, conferences, trade shows. Not as much recently as those things have died out, but in the past. Places like the Hotel Del Coronado. Yes, very nice place, but in the end it was just a hotel room. I wouldn't make a huge effort to go back even if it was cheap, which it was not. I think a lot of it is so you can tell people you have been - like paying $1000 for a certain sneaker - its the status symbol not the product.

Possibly one exception being the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans. Every tiny detail is perfect, from the room to the bartender to the mixed drinks. Reminds me of the old South which is slowly going away. Pay for a Premium level floor which gives you access to the top floor lounge whose finger food offering at high tea is "complimentary" and not to miss, and I am not a tea kinda guy.

The only hotel I have interest in is maybe the Breakers for its historical significance. Maybe I'll just stop in for coffee some day. :ROFLMAO:
