Hello folks, Audi A4 Quattro oil change

.
German engineering at its finest.👎
Pinnacle of engineering: steel bolts holding pan on Sequoia transmission going into the aluminum transmission assembly.
Audi/BMW/MB/VW/Porsche: Aluminium bolts go into aluminium; you change them every time you take them out.
Toyota: steel into aluminum: once the "grace period" is passed (2-6 years, depending on location), you cannot take them down bcs. well, unless you want to break them.

People still prefer steel into aluminium bcs. people don't like to buy bolts. They like to buy transmission pans with bolts and pay someone to drill out old ones.

Not sure here why the drain plug is drama for folks, a bazillion of these engines in many different VAG vehicles on the road without drain plug issues.
Yeah I didn't like the idea on paper but now that I've done a few oil changes I'm over my fears. I also don't have to worry about torque settings...tighten until the "nub" sets in place and done. I'm with you though on the purpose of the nub...I see nothing pointing to it holding the plug tight and the sole purpose appears to be prevention of over tightening.

What drives me nuts about the EU is that they will put this plastic part, which many will find necessary to replace, just to be on the safe side and lose them, throw them in the trash. But God forbid you want to drink juice or water out of the plastic bottle like a normal human being. They attached a cap to it, so you cannot lose the cap. It is the most annoying thing ever. That is the first thing I thought of when I saw this plug.

Just did my pan on the Golf...new bolts of course!

What?

If you have oil filters where they are easy to access, like my car and suv, just vac the oil out like the dealer does. Takes 15-20 min or so. No worry about plugs.

There’s a lot of speculation going on. Beware!
Regarding?

These motors are well-understood. VW 508 is 0w20, purely for fuel efficiency reasons. Motors specced for it have a oil pump sprocket with less teeth for increased oil pressure to compensate. There is a pressure relief valve, so even with thicker oil it will still self-adjust to the intended pressure range. Rod bearing clearances have not changed in years, since the cars came specced for 5w40. All of this is in vw/audi self-study programs and service manuals. No speculation.

Going to a VW 504 Xw30 oil has no downside. For 99% of people M1 ESP is the ideal choice. Relatively cheap, extremely strict spec, widely available, dealer-fill for Xw30, quality base oils.

The oil drain plug is what it is, I've removed and installed them many times with a simple flat-head screwdriver. Buying in bulk they're cheap enough to not care about tossing them each time. They're one time use because it's an o-ring. The service manual tells you to replace every o-ring any time it's out.

As for the dip stick, I'd try buying an OE one for a B8 A4. I work on a friend's A4 regularly, it has the ECS dipstick and it's a pain to read properly. Seems to be the same part for both B8 and B9, but the only B9 I touch is an S4, don't know for sure.

I agree, have thought about that too

Is this the oil recommendation for my car?

For all the comments above Angie is at work in the car, with the owners manual

I’ll have to look when she gets home, thank you for your recommendation and knowledge
