650WHP 2018 Audi S5 Oil Recommendation?

Hello,

Pardon me if this has already been answered somewhere. I have a 2018 Audi S5 Sportback Prestige with 3.0L turbo DI engine. I have a larger TTE810 turbo on it along with quite a few other modifications and I run E85 blended with 91 to get an E60 blend. I am tuned with 034 Motorsport and they say the car should have about 650 wheel HP and 615 ft;lbs wheel torque both of which is about double the stock numbers. 034 recommends using the heavier 5w40 spec oil from the older SQ5, which is a VW 502-00/505-00 spec, in order to cope with the additional stress of added power. Their shop recommends LiquiMoly, but I am not sure exactly which LiquiMoly formulation.

For the last ~20k miles I have been working through my stockpile of OEM Audi 0w20, which I believe is the VW 508-00 spec, but now I am out and I want to find a better oil to use.

I really don't remember much from the old days when I lurked on BITOG, but a quick search tells me that I want high HTHS, not low SAPs, and low Noack.

The LiquiMoly options I am seeing are (they all have the same 3.5mPas HTHS):
- Leichtauf High Tech SAE 5W40 SKU:2332 - 10.0% Noack (CEC-L-40-A-93)
- Molygen New Generation SE 5W40 SKU:20232 - 10.0% Noack (DIN 51581) - Why different Noack spec?
- Synthoil Premium SAE 5W40 SKU:2041 - 12.9% Noack (CEC-L-40-A-93)
- Top Tec 4100 SAE 5W40 SKU:2330 - 9.5% Noack (CEC-L-40-A-93) - Low SAPs

I read from a 2017 BITOG post by user "edyvw" that for a DI engine I want a lower Noack such as M1 5W30 ESP with its 5.6% Noack

Please help me find a good oil. Ideally one that is readily available and wont break the bank.

Ethanol blends are really hard on oil. You want something stout that can withstand the fuel dilution.

M1 FS 0W-40 or Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40 would be great choices. Solid, meet VW 505-00, inexpensive, and universally available.

Other more expensive options include Motul 8100 X-CESS 5W40 Gen2 or 8100 Power 5W40.

LM gets a bad rap around here because of the poor price to performance and their marketing.

I'm running Ravenol 0W30 in both my '21 SQ5 Sportback and '23 RS5 Competition Coupe. For your application, running 5W40 is more appropriate. You have a few choices in this viscosity with Ravenol, with the RUP formulation a potential good candidate, as it has more moly and a tungsten additive:

Otherwise, there's always a "regular" Ravenol 5W40 that meets VW 502 00/505 00 specs, and is $25 cheaper for 5L (1L extra than the RUP):

With the tune, running a bigger turbo, and E, bypass anything Liqui Moly (sorry @TiGeo 😁 ). Give HPL a call for direction or Red Line. If something more "readily available" than mail order, get some Mobil 1(0W or 5W-40) at Walmart. I would seriously consider using UOA to determine interval, but expect it to be rather short with all that going on.

For the oils you have listed from LM, a ton of folks use the 5W40 LM Leichtlauf High Tech 5W40 in tuned Euro cars which has all the pertinent approvals - it will work just fine here for you. The others you have listed I would not recommend (Molygen, the older Synthoil) as they are more likely to not hold the visocsity as well. If you really want the best oil for this car, look at HPL Euro 5W40, has a much better base stock and VIIs and would be able to longer w/r to mileage. If you are just changing following the typical tuner-based 5K miles, any of the standard 40 grade Euro oils you can find will work just fine here.

Here me out...
Mobil 1 5w50, probably the FS X2 variety though the Supercar variety is also an option.

These oils offer a decent HTHS and are not terribly thick for being a 50wt oil. They will also shear into the 40wt range pretty quickly during use and are readily available and not terribly expensive, especially the FSx2 which is $6.99 a quart at Napa auto.

Alternatively M1 0w40 supercar or ESP if you can find it.

Any idea what your oil temperatures are?

That leaves you with Walmart/AutoZone/AA - all the oils mentioned above are good.

Liqui Moly only lists the min HTHS required of the grade or approvals. 0w/5w40 have a min HTHS of 3.5 by default.

You'll want to get an idea of the amount of fuel dilution you're seeing which will either dictate the interval or grade (ex, 5w40 --> 5w50).

We run Castrol Euro 0W40 in my wife's tuned Stinger. It meets the VW 502-00/505-00 spec and found at Wally world.
I have run that for 80k miles in the ecoboost (since first change at 500miles) and run it in the Porsche as well. A40 approval, MB 229.3/229.5 and VW 502/505 tells me it will be fine for your needs.

300V doesn’t have much though, and the new version says in the PDS: “suitable for all types of fuels, gasoline, Diesel and biofuels (especially Ethanol)”
Yeah, they lowered the content for PAO. Still, I would say 5-8%.
I would avoid it still as IMO street oil would be better fit if daily.

Green is nice, same color as money which you will have more left over off, use for UOA.
