Googling I found the 40, guess whatever I was looking at was wrong.
Z06 (and ZR1?) has a specially formulated 5W-50 with very low detergent levels.Confusing manual to say the least. Stingray LT2 uses 0W-40

C7 didn’t maybe that’s why.Googling I found the 40, guess whatever I was looking at was wrong.
Supercar 5W-50 is exclusively for the 2023 Corvette Z06 powered by the 5.5L LT6 engine, the highest horsepower, naturally-aspirated production V-8 found in a production car today.
Curious why HP/cylinder vs say HP/liter?For an engine that is producing about 110HP per cylinder, (HP/Cyl is a different and solid way of looking at an engine's load, which is what matters), oil must have adequate viscosity and high HTHS to carry the rod bearing and piston pin loads. Since many of the choices will shear, it's often best to choose an oil based on quality and high HTHS.
Let's keep in mind that most automotive engines have rod bearing sizes that are not all that far apart from each other. Sure, there are differences, but for the most part, one automotive engine won't have a 27mm rod bearing and another an absurdly large 80mm rod bearing.
The idea that some of these lower viscosity oils can provide adequate MOFT under extreme loads is generally not correct. Especially if oil temps and pressures are not actively managed.
80HP per cylinder is where 5W-40/HTHS above 3.5 and ideally 3.8 is required.
110HP per cyl really does require an HTHS pushing 5.0 and at least a 15W-50 synthetic.
Been there, done that, for 40+ years.
There is a reason I go right for M1, 15W-50 in my turbocharged builds. Take a minute and let the engine warm up with higher viscosity oils. Other than that, there is no downside.
I've always done it per liter using crank hp values - so my car 1.8L @ 394 (dyno per tuner) = 219 hp/L.Curious why HP/cylinder vs say HP/liter?
Nice! For 5K changes and that consumption, any of those oils will work just fine here. My car? I'd run HPL Euro 5W40 (and I do!) b/c it's basically the best oil for these kinds of cars (power etc.) with a HTHS >4 and an excellent base of PAO/ester/ANs, lots of moly, and Star VIIs to hold the visocity to the level they can. Thanks to everyone for the responses and my apologies for taking so long to reply. I am overwhelmed by all of the oil options. Some people seem to be interested in the car so I have included a brief history of mods below and attached some hasty pictures. The car looks basically stock except that it is slightly lowered, has wider tires, 10mm wheels spacers, some turbo whistling under load, and maybe some exhaust burbles (depending on the drive mode settings)
I have owned the car since November 2020 when I bought it used with ~35k miles.
Almost exactly a year after buying the car I did the following:
Over the next year+, I started gathering the parts to go Stage 3 with 034 along with a brake system upgrade: The install happened in September 2023 when the car had 59k and it has 73k now ~14k miles
- 034 Motorsport Stage 1 91 Octane ECU tune and Stage 2 TCU Tune
- 337 AWHP, 423 FT-LBS AWTQ
- Calculated 397 HP, 491 FT-LBS Torque at the engine (66.1 HP/Cylinder)
- Wagner intercooler with charge pipe kit
- 034 P34 Air Intake
- 034 Dynamic+ Lowering Springs
- ECS Tuning Front Adjustable Sway Bar
- 034 Dynamic+ Rear Adjustable Sway Bar
- 034 Dynamic+ Billet Adjustable Sway Bar End Links
- 034 Density Line Adjustable Upper Control Arm Kit (Track Spec)
- 034 Density Line Adjustable Rear Toe Links
- 034 Billet Aluminum Rear Subframe Mount Insert Kit
- ECS Rear Differential and Transmission Mount Insert Kits
- ECS Billet Front Strut Brace
- 034 X-Clear Driveshaft Tunnel Brace
- 265/40ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires
The car's cooling system has not been modified yet and includes, from the factory an oil cooler that is tied to the engine coolant and an auxiliary engine coolant radiator on the driver side of the front bumper.
- 034 Stage 3+ TTE8810 E60 High Output ECU Tune and Stage 3 TCU Tune
- 648 AWHP, 615 FT-LBS AWTQ
- Calculated 774 HP, 716 FT-LBS Torque at the engine (129 HP/Cylinder)
- TTE810 Hybrid Turbocharger
- RedStar Downpipe with High Flow GESI Gen2 UHOX 400cpsi 6" Catalyst with full heat shielding
- OEM Audi RS5 Fuel Fuel Injectors
- Fuel-It Ethanol Content Sensor
- NGK Laser Iridium Spark Plugs
- 034 High Pressure Fuel Pump Piston Upgrade Kit
- 034 SuperDuper Turbo Inlet
- 034 Stainless Steel Braided Brake Line Kit
- Zimmerman Brake Rotors
- G-Loc GS-1 Brake Pads
- ATE Typ 200 Brake Fluid
- 034 Bullet Nose Wheel Stud Conversion Kit
- 034 10mm Wheel Spacers
- 275/35ZR18 Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 Tires
The car does have an oil temperature display on the dash. Oil temperature seems to be a weak link for the car. When cruising, I see oil temps between 190 and 210 depending on ambient temperature and whether I have it in sport mode or not (where it holds a lower gear), but i usually only see 210 when climbing long hills. Oil temps quickly climb when getting on the power. The highest I have ever noticed was ~240 after doing back to back to back launches and 30-90mph pulls.
The car does consume some oil on the order of 1-2 quarts per 5000 mile OCI. I have never done a UOA.
I am leaning towards the cheaper oils:
Do I really need something fancier than that? Would it be wise to top off the oil with M1 5w50 to help slightly with fuel dilution?
- M1 FS Euro 0W40
- Castrol Edge Euro 5W40
- Quaker State Euro FS 5W40
- Maybe PP Euro 5W40
Does M1 make more than one 5w50? Searching on Walmart.com got me confused.

I think my G-Loc GS-1 pads must be glazed because that squeal quite a bit, so I am used somewhat used to embarrassing noises and for my power level I really need more aggressive pads which will also squeal. What kind of noise do the 034 rotors make, is it like a scrubbing/scraping noise? Are you sure that a slotted rotor would make less noise than the J-hooks?You'll not be happy with the 034 J-Hook 2-piece rotors - too noisy, even after break-in. I had the full set on my '21 SQ5 Sportback, and with Hawk Performance Ceramic Pads,
I would go with Girodisc instead:
https://girodisc.com/audi-b9-rs5-front-rotors/
https://girodisc.com/audi-b8-b9-rs5-rear-rotors/
They are simply slotted vs J-Hook.
Eliminate Castrol Edge from that equation. Thanks to everyone for the responses and my apologies for taking so long to reply. I am overwhelmed by all of the oil options. With the J-hook, it was not only an audible noise, but also a rough feeling through the pedal under medium to heavy braking. If you check Audizine, you'll see other reports from members who installed the 034 J-hook rotors and experienced similar to mine. I've had both Girodisc and JHMotorsports 2-piece slotted rotors on current or previous Audis I've owned, and they were never as audible nor generated the rumbling feedback through the pedal under medium to hard braking.I think my G-Loc GS-1 pads must be glazed because that squeal quite a bit, so I am used somewhat used to embarrassing noises and for my power level I really need more aggressive pads which will also squeal.
