Greenworks warranty

Even if you buy from Greenworks.com and send it to them for repair, you are still responsible for shipping both ways and Greenworks can still deny the warranty if they so deem it when the receive the product.

The first pole saw had a plastic pin inside that held it all together and it broke. Menards accepted the return and refunded the money, 3 months old The second pole saw the internal stand offs for the plastic body broke, bought on eBay. No warranty Greenworks said did not contact eBay or seller.
 
Sounds like they actually aren't.....factory authorized?
It sounds like no one is a factory authorized when it comes to Greenworks other than Greenworks.com. The seller sells a lot of different brands.

A LOT of companies are like this. Most medium and smaller companies are. Shipping is a large cost. All companies can deny warranty. I mean many do some level of goodwill. But with the way some people abuse stuff and expect warranty - it's mind boggling.

In your case, some interface, photos, etc then they could have shipped you a replacement. How much does eBay save you v. Amazon Prime?
I think this is why for such lower cost things, if I can't find it locally I use Amazon (Prime). Amazon returns are easy comparatively.

I have practical experience via ebike sales with Li based batteries and motors. I am so glad that I stuck with the 80V platform. Really does sound like 40V stuff is junk. Sorry to read about your issues.

I have been buying lots of DeWalt and Milwaukee tools the last few years, no real duds ion the bunch but the DeWalt 20VMax sabre saw blade chuck is garbage. That's just terrible design - the blade flings out with the lightest resistance. No real help from DeWalt. I have corded Milwaukee drill just quit, I had not even used it much - but was at the time outside warranty. Milwaukee completely shined me on. NO help at all.

Not to say I don't have warranty issues. My not so cheap Gravely ZT mower had REAL OOB issues, the dealer came and picked it up....his nickle (FINE) They delivered it back, but the problem was still there, just exhibiting in a different form. I was pissed, contacted Gravely directly, lots of correspondence with video and pictures of the issue (mainly the parking brake would randomly engage while actively mowing). Local dealer showed up with an RMA and took my mower again. Got it back the next week. They had to modify the thing to - including metal cutting to make it work. I mean I was like WTAF?? Gravely never gave me the answer to any questions. It's fixed, but they went silent. Was I the only one with this issue?? I bet not.

Our Greenworks mower got 1 season of operation, second season the self propelled function broke gears then the charger burned up and they didn’t have parts and didn’t use standard parts to substitute aftermarket
 
Looks to me as far as the 8" pole saw it is the same as a Ryobi RY40050 8" 40V Color switch and drive cover are different.

Just get the extended warranty from Amazon or Lowes, these junk products are guaranteed only to malfunction and break eventually.

Lowes and Amazon warranties are basically rental plans: $54 for a 3 year warranty (Lowes) for a $400 pressure washer that will explode if you look at it wrong = $1.50 a month rental for 3 years.

Called up Lowes in my situation, told them the pump head was spraying out with reduced pressure. They didn't even want to see the Greenworks pressure washer nor did they want it back. They sent me a gift card for the full purchase amount in the mail. Kept the wand and bits for my replacement, a Honda Powered Craftsman.

My point is - when I first read your post and some comments, I got worried that I had no 4 year warranty for the 4 units I bought from Amazon - seller is "Greenworks". There is some misinterpretations in this thread mainly, I think.

The warranty is simple - BUT it does say ORIGINAL PURCHASER. So I get it, it's a way of stemming support of counterfeit units. Or as mentioned theft and cheesy resellers. I just don't buy this kind of thing from ebay.

Maybe the 40V stuff is their cheapie line, never tried any of those items.

To show you that I use my stuff:

My house was build on essentially and old farm in the forest. Just a temperate rain forest gone crazy, seedlings that turned 40+ years, snags, brush, canes gon nuts, you name it. The acre surrounding my house was NASTY April 12 last year when we moved in. Today it is clear and landscape is almost complete. Greenworks tools were part of the success I suppose I can say.

80V GWPro 18" Chainsaw - works very nice. I've cut and bucked a variety of trees (cherry 16" +, apple, fir, walnut, etc) and have worked it HARD. I rarely will cut down a good tree, these were all needing to be cut. Chain tension is crucial or it will jump. Luckily it's easy to tighten. I read the OE chain and bar are weak, but Oregon parts fit perfectly so I bought an Oregon bar and chain , even nuts to do this mod, but I have not yet. OEchain still hanging in there.

80V GwPro - String trimmer - this is the Greenworks device I use the most. I have been thrashing it since new over a year ago. The head is battered. I am unsure how much life is in it but no signs of failure and still loads and dispenses string fine. It's been used for long chunks of time only stopping for battery swap and string. Within reason, I tend to keep it speeding from close by area to the next as I assume stopping and starting uses more current draw. I need to see if I can find an aftermarket brush cutter. Greenworks claims it will work with many other brands.

80V GWPro Blower - love the thing, but is a hassle to carry especiall with the largest battery. I mainly use it as a bellows. If I make a burn pile and rig a it to blow in the center for hours (very low speed BTW) it will slag the earth underneath and combustion can be near complete. I have run it all day with just battery swap

80V GWPro Back pack blower - I end up using this one in the breezeway, drives, shed, patio and sidewalk. A lot. Never had a gas blower but this thing is nice and just as strong as our Toro plug replacement (our first Toro died pretty early)


Anyway, no problems so I thought it odd folks are having issues.

Amazon vendors lie all the time and present themselves as the manufacturer. We have this problem and Amazon isnt eager to help fix it.

By only offering a warranty only if bought direct it sounds like green works might as well not have a reseller channel.

Why would I ever buy it from a dealer?

IMHO it is illegal for them to not honor a warranty published and not specifically saying it had to be bought, now from Greenworks.com.

It should be interesting to see if the eBay sellers drop Greenworks products as this is apparently a new situation with them.

I would agree, and this is why I stated such in my first reply.

If they are truly saying "must be bought from greenworks.com" then that is breach of the original contract.

But again, if the ebay seller just bought or got a batch to resell, then you are not the original purchaser.

Amazon is only offering 30 days free return or replacement. Cheapest replacement I can find buying new local is Menards. Would they honor the return in 3 years? I doubt it. Lowes doesn't sell the 40 volt one.

I was generally speaking. Basically if it looks like a lower end item, might as well get the warranty if possible.
 
So as it turns out, I'm screwed..... Greenworks denies warranty, ebay and the seller only good for 90 days. Greenworks needs to publish a list of authorized sellers so you know you can get warranty work. I might set aside a couple hours and call them tomorrow.

I predict they will start getting sued for warranty claim denials.

But I had one that the motor was good, plastic housing parts broke. So I'm swapping parts to jury rig a workable one.

I would take the steps to assure:
1) You show in fact and in good faith, bought the unit new.
2) Your unit is authentic (not a knock off). Don't clue the company in, but at least ask them with the serial number that you have registered.

Given the above, indeed they are walking on thin reeds in the swamp.

They have told me twice no warranty due to who the seller is (not on their list) and they have the registration info.

They need to publish a list of who are authorized sellers. And improve their means of customer service contact. As it is now with one phone number and hours on hold they are blatantly showing they are avoiding the issue. I hope their phone operators get paid well.......
