Trane Heat Pump Warranty

Thanks everyone, friend of a friend works at a supply shop and really knows hvac, sent him a couple of these links. Also sent to the indy HVAC guy that has already looked at my system...hopefully we can order and get it installed b4 Christmas🤣

It appears your trane warranty isnt worth the paper it was printed on :(
IMO they should replace furnace for free(pay labor).. because that is a piece of BS.

New normal though. They tried to sell me a furnace because "its past its lifetime" yeah well its light use and 12 years old.

It is just the new normal, because the company that installed the system vanished...IF the manufacturer would have stood behind their product I would have told anyone that would listen that I have 2 trane systems and other than 1 fan dying after 9 years they have been great. Now I will tell everyone, dont buy those because God forbid something breaks, they WILL NOT stand behind their product. Darn shame.

Trane , call 1-866-720-5051,,,tell them your situation, myself had to deal with Trane equipment and found them easy to deal with on parts and service (commercial equip.) keep on them and they will come through.they are better than some other names in the business and do take care of their customers.

Pull the module off the end of the motor and inspect it. Most common failure mode of these modules is the MOV (metal oxide varistor) failing because of a power surge. They can be replaced and the module fixed if you are handy with a soldering iron and provided the circuit board isn't buried in potting.

Here is a replacement MOV

We purchased a Trane heat pump from a local HVAC company 9 years ago, the installing company has since gone out of business. The fan on the air handler died just over 2 weeks ago (diagnosed by a different local Trane authorized HVAC company). Unfortunately the fan is no longer produced or available anywhere. The warranty cleary states all parts are warrantied for 10 years (labor is not covered). I have called the Trane Warranty Customer service number 4 times. The first time that I called was 10 days ago. 7 days ago I was assured a case manager was going to be assigned and the my case was being "escalated". I called twice this Monday wondering when a case manager would be assigned. Finally I told the guy that I dont want any more excuses I want a new fan so that their authorized dealer can install it. He hung up on me, I did not curse or yell. I am at a loss how a company that should have a rock solid customer service department can treat their customers like this. I took a couple of days to cool down (literally and figuratively) and now I am ready to take action. They still have not assigned a case manager and the email that I sent yesterday generated a poor A.I. reply.
So what do I do? I have already started taunting them on Facebook, 3 days later and nothing. Do I sue them in small claims court? Email several executives? Go nuts on social media with nothing but facts? At this point I refuse to buy a new unit and go away, I want my daggone warranty honored.
Contact your local news station and find out who does consumer reporting investigations. This usually makes companies more than maje it whole. A news segment recently reported on a couple that had tens of thousands of dollars of shoddy work done in their home. Apparently the dad and son had two separate businesses but the dad had given a ton of money to the sons business. Eventually some other companies and good samaritans came to help out.

This is a disappointing story to read about here, as we got a new Trane system in July 2020. As an owner of an XL16i condenser and S9V2 furnace (from memory?), I'm actually not surprised. Hopefully the OP will get this thing fixed soon.

For me, the previous Bryant system came with the house and I used it 2002-2019 so I suppose nothing to complain about. AC broke 2019, and we didn't fix it until July 2020, during the pandemic making it a little more unpleasant.

When we shopped around for the system, I had found a yellow pages from 2002, in the attic. There were only 2 out of maybe 30 HVAC cos. in the book that still existed. We happened to go with 1 of the 2. Not really by choice, it happened that way when shopping and getting quotes. It's a racket. Just look on YouTube.

Buying HVAC is like buying a car. I had read online that if one got 5 quotes, they do not want the lowest quote apples to apples. They want the best installer, for a price as close to the lowest quote. Example, one trick they use to get a lower quote is to eliminate the stainless steel chimney liner, that's over $1k and maybe up to $2k. A reputable installer will not do that to save you money. If you want a high efficiency furnace they will tell you that's not an option. A cheesy installer will cut that corner and give you a lower quote.

At any rate I had already seen some of these stories online so I went into it figuring my warranty is only as good as the installer (seems reputable ones also will not give a lower price by eliminating an included extended warranty by them). The reason is say the system gets installed, and day 2 there is a leak. I have read that could be easily $1500 UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY.

I found that the most reputable cos do what I see at work on big jobs--there's one price all inclusive and it's not actually broken out. So our quote included the stainless steel liner and a 10 year extended warranty from the HVAC co themselves. Of course, worthless if they go out of business, but they were established 1971.

At the end of the day, the reputable installer ends of doing the job for about the same as the cheapest one, with everything included that the cheapest cut out. Very unpleasant shopping for this stuff. Once again didn't do Costco, assumed it would be more expensive.

Costco = Lennox and Lennox doesn’t have the best reputation as of late.

However, you are spot on about the installer!

The brand name on the side of the truck is irrelevant unless you have a very good installer.

There’s plenty of “equipment” available; the daunting task is finding an HVAC installer who knows what they are doing with that equipment.

When we got the system installed we got 3 quotes, 2 from companies that advertise all day long and one from a company that had been in biz over 10 years and was right down the road from my house (about 5 miles). The non advertising companies quote was almost $3k less AND the sales rep really asked a lot of questions and proposed that we upgrade the ductwork to the room in our upstairs that always struggled to stay cool/warm. Very happy with the install. 9 years and zero complaints, no service calls. Noticed they went out of business sometime in the last few years.
Update on my customer service issue with Trane.... they still have not assigned a case manager.

As an update, I called again yesterday. Still no case manager assigned. I give up, they win...will be getting a new air handler installed soon. Just cannot deal with no heat any longer. My small consolation prize is that my new hobby is trashing them on facebook. Every post for the next year will have fun little snippets about my experience, nothing too dramatic, just facts about my experience.

Sorry to hear about this....no heat? Did you try the BBB? I've had a couple scenarios where nothing happened until I contacted the BBB--suddenly, the entities (BMW dealership and Hickory Farms [what a joke, right?]) wanted to resolve the problem ASAP, which was all their fault to begin with. Good luck in getting this issue in the rearview.

What you probably have. I did not search:

Those motors are now made by Genteq. They are ECM's or Electrically Commutated Motors.

As a general rule, they are programmed application specific, and the connector is application specific. But the motors (in a specific HP range) are all the same. For example a 1/3HP motor can spin at 580RPM, 850, 1100, or even 1200 RPM. Same motor, different programming. $250 for an unprogrammed motor. $1500 for a programmed one, yikes! They typically use a PWM signal to both turn on, and select one of the 2 or 3 programmed speeds. An unprogrammed motor cannot work.

If the electronics fail, they cannot be repaired. They are well sealed and the surface mount components peel off when pulling the sealant out. However, sometimes the Thermistor fails. These can be easily changed out. If your thermistor is fried, it's visually obvious and a simple $3 replacement will probably get it running. Even if it is just for a spare motor.

Also, the magnets on the rotor can come loose. They can be repaired with JB weld, even if cracked.

This MOT17833 is prob not a direct replacement (I did not search). But search their site. Ya never know.

Just an FYI, in an emergency if your Condenser Fan Motor (not your issue) fails, you can put a powerful fan on top of your outdoor unit. Sealed with a few towels. It will work.

Also, your local HVAC repair company can probably source the motor. Worth considering as many newer HVAC units are poor quality with even worse support.

Heil is even worse. Their website says to "Call a professional Heil technician near you." They won't even list or help with part numbers for a few of the simple repairs that some people can do themselves.
