Trane Heat Pump Warranty

We purchased a Trane heat pump from a local HVAC company 9 years ago, the installing company has since gone out of business. The fan on the air handler died just over 2 weeks ago (diagnosed by a different local Trane authorized HVAC company). Unfortunately the fan is no longer produced or available anywhere. The warranty cleary states all parts are warrantied for 10 years (labor is not covered). I have called the Trane Warranty Customer service number 4 times. The first time that I called was 10 days ago. 7 days ago I was assured a case manager was going to be assigned and the my case was being "escalated". I called twice this Monday wondering when a case manager would be assigned. Finally I told the guy that I dont want any more excuses I want a new fan so that their authorized dealer can install it. He hung up on me, I did not curse or yell. I am at a loss how a company that should have a rock solid customer service department can treat their customers like this. I took a couple of days to cool down (literally and figuratively) and now I am ready to take action. They still have not assigned a case manager and the email that I sent yesterday generated a poor A.I. reply.
So what do I do? I have already started taunting them on Facebook, 3 days later and nothing. Do I sue them in small claims court? Email several executives? Go nuts on social media with nothing but facts? At this point I refuse to buy a new unit and go away, I want my daggone warranty honored.

According to the local Trane supply warehouse and the local Trane authorized dealer, the motor is a specialty motor and it is not available anywhere. They both warned that use of any other motor will be a waste of time and money.

I bet it would be a lot cheaper than what they want-to sell you an entire furnace (& likely a plenum & A/C A-coil too). Pull the motor, go to a motor shop, see if they can rebuild it or match it with a new one. If it makes you feel better, file a complaint with your state AG, not sure small claims can do anything. Somewhere in here is a “found a way to stop a Trane” joke!

If you do have a social media account you can post on their page and see if you can get a reaction. Worth a shot.

They don't care. The only way you will win is if you can shame them into it.

do some online searching and find a regional rep. and contact him with who you talked to and what was said and document everything, if no results, contact Trane in Lacross wis. just further up the line.

Can you post the part number of the air handler fan motor? There are a handful of very knowledgeable HVAC professionals on BITOG (such as @KJSmith) who may be able to provide advice to help resolve your dilemma.

I have a Trane gas furnace, not a heat pump, that is 12 years old.. Zero problems. It came with a very complete owners manual full of service info, parts list, schematics, etc. Did you get that?

Your model #?

Call a supply house that can cross reference parts. A motor is not a special, unique, part.

Can you remove and replace?

Maybe call the state for guidance.

Who ever your local dealer is should be handling the warranty. You shouldn't have to do anything. Anyone that handles American Standard or Trane should be able to take care of it.

OP here, the first indy HVAC guy that came out went to the Trane distribution center, none available locally, none available nationwide. He contacted Grainger, no luck, he contacted another source, nothing. He told me good luck. I then had an authorized Trane HVAC tech come out. They cannot source the part, told me the part is on backorder and do not have an ETA. They also told me this fan has to be programmed and if using a non Trane part, it will very likely not work.
If anyone has any idea on how to find a MOT21485 - I am open to ideas/suggestions.

MOT21485 is the part number for the fan. If anyone knows of a suitable replacement, would love to hear it.
This is the craziest thing I ever saw. I normally can find anything on the internet and I cannot find anything with a part number close to that. Trane of all brands is so popular. There has to be something to this we arent seeing.
(oops, I see your updated post above mine)
PS I also searched about 5 countries overseas (eBay sites) every motor seems to have a 1 as the first number and yours is a 2

I can even see the part number on their site

A motor that needs “programmed”? Does it have a circuit board on it? Most variable speed blower motors have multiple windings for multiple speeds-could this be some kind of inverter drive? What went wrong when it failed? Noisy, burned up, completely dead?

OK, just like @alarmguy stated above, searching for Trane MOT21485 was mostly unproductive. However, digging into the Trane website under the MOT21485 "Relationships" section, it shows that the MOT21485 motor superseded the MOT13905 motor. As such, I found this listing (backordered until February) at my go-to HVAC parts source, SupplyHouse.

See if your HVAC dealer can backfit the MOT13905 unit which has the same specifications as the MOT21485. I also found a ClimaTek MOT13905 on Amazon. According to the Trane website for the MOT13905, it has this note for programming the motor: External Part Note: PROGRAM NAME - (GAM5_18-D672366G66); FOR UNPROGRAMMED MOTOR USE MOT13002.

Good luck with your pursuit of a resolution with your heat pump. As a current owner of a Trane dual-fuel HVAC system, I am dismayed in how you have been treated by Trane.
