The trade-in cost to upgrade to a Samsung Z-Flip 6 from a Z-Flip 5 is $379 this year. I only paid $49 to upgrade from the Z Flip-4 to the Z-Flip 5. I was hoping for a generous trade-in offer this year, but it didn't happen so l will be holding on to my Z-Flip 5 and hope it doesn't break.

I purchased a used Z-Flip 3 two years ago for $349 on eBay and used it as a trade-in for a Z-Flip 4 where l got $900 trade-In. It cost me $349 plus an additional $100 to get the Flip-4. They threw in a free Galaxy watch and silicone case. Not a bad deal. It was purchased unlocked from the Samsung website.

The only issue l had with the flip 4 was the screen protector started to bubble at the crease where it folds. Samsung offers one free replacement which l got. Subsequent replacements cost $20.

I traded in the Flip 4 last year for the Flip 5. Total cost was $49. The display on the Flip 5 started showing white pixels along the crease after one month. Luckily, it was fixed for free under warranty. I do not buy insurance on my phones. The screen protector has bubbled up on the crease which l will get replaced soon before my 1 year warranty is up.

I like the functionality of the flip phone, and l was dumb enough to believe that l would be able to upgrade annually in perpetuity for <$100. It was good while it lasted. I will be keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a conventional phone as l don't have confidence in the reliability of the Flip phone long-term. It was fun while the attractive trade-in offers existed. I guess all good things must come to an end.

No way I'd ever buy a folding screen phone. I own my phones for around 2-3 years. I'd trust it to last a year to trade it in but i don't know long term. Maybe trade it in for the next normal galaxy.

I'm really underwhelmed with all the 2024 Android offerings. Looks like my trusty S22U will keep plugging along. It's on it's 3rd back glass now and just keeps on chugging.

Kind of funny. I am feeling that way about iPhones. I have an iPhone 13 and well, Im not sure where is goes from here. The iPhone 15 not does offer much more. There is one big thing and that is the ability to contact emergency services using satellites should there be no cell signal. But that isnt enough for me to switch just yet, unless as I get used to our new coastal home and venture farther into the ocean if it would work out there. No reason to check yet.

I think cell phones are about as advanced as they can be right now. Not seeing anything compelling. Maybe why the industry is rushing to institute AI as everything else is already "here" for most people.
I love electronics but think we reached a platoe and possibly the only reason to replace will be wear and tear for now.
