just got the second oil change on my 2015 sonata.2.4 gdi engine.the first one was at the dealer using mobil 1 5/20 they said change at fivethousand miles.the second one used vavoline syn power tec at monro said the same thing change at five thousand miles.seems like a waste of good oil.what do you think?

Book says 3750 (severe) or 7500. The only way to know would be to get a UOA once at 20,000 miles or so. I've seen quite a few where 2.4GDi owners have gone to 7,000 on conventional without issue (very little dilution) once they get past the ~20,000 miles as it appears dilution may slow down after break-in. Of course, results may vary and dilution has not proven to be an issue.

I wouldn't worry that they recommend changing at 5,000. It's an easy value to maintain and track.

Hyundai Dealer in Canada or Hyundai Canada?

What does your owners manual say.

Hyundai Canada - There is a slim supplemental manual HC includes for Canada cars that has the shortened OCI spelled out.

I believe that more important than short ocis, is to keep clean the entire fuel system in gdi engines. they are very sensitive of deposits, since they run at very high pressure.

They're not more sensitive. They're more prone to deposit formation. Fuel bypasses the intake valves, so they don't get washed. The high pressure doesn't have anything to do with the deposits.

I just went 6k on mobil super synthetic 5w20. Gonna go 6k on the magnatec 5w20 in it now.

My manual says 7500 and recommends quaker state. But does no specify conventional or synthetic.

With a 3.5 quart sump I'm not really comfortable with much past that.
