Just spotted some old stock Pennzoil Ultra, grey bottle, in 0W-40..
Is this a Euro oil?

I have some 5W-40 Ultra (grey bottle) that is marked Euro,
and some Pennzoil Platinum (silver label) 0W-40 and 5W-40, marked "European Formula"...

Also found 6 quarts Castrol Edge 0W-30 (Belgin Castrol), for $4 a quart...
the remaining two had the old "SPT" label.
Same stuff?

No. That's the older SRT formula.

The old "SPT" stuff doesn't have titanium in it.

The Ladybug liked my previous brew of a quart Castrol 0W-30, and 3 quarts 0W-40.
Current brew of Pennzoil Euro 0W-40 is running good too...
Going to send off the Pennzoil for a VOA, the non Euro has one on BITOG, but I can't find one for the Euro...

Can't find a VOA on the silver label Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40 either,
wanna bet that is the same as the old Ultra Euro 5W-40?

I'm also gonna bet that the only difference between
Pennzoil Euro 0W-40 and 5W-40 will be the viscosity...

Ultra Euro 5w-40 has undergone some changes over the years, and I'm not sure we have a recent VOA of it either.

The Smart specs a 40 weight, right? Is it 5W40? AZ here has Synpower 5W40 for either $3 or $4 a quart.

It probably calls for an oil meeting MB 229.5 spec, in which case it could be 0W-30, 5W-30, 0W-40, or 5W-40, as long as it carries that spec.

Then again, his car is no longer under warranty, so I'm not sure he needs to stick to that MB spec, but it's probably not a bad idea.

Quattro Pete,

Great guess,

I am running MB 229.5 oils...

Good luck finding the Pennzoil Euro 0W-40, it's nearly unobtainium...

What's the real differences between the current Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum?

Just checked in my manual (my Smart is not the same but 4 cylinder 1332cm3, 05), it says 229.1 or 229.3 or 229.5, in anything between 0W30 to 20W50 (including 10W60) depending on temperature. Very wide range lol!
Local Mercedes dealer put 0W30 in anything.

Well, when it comes to Euro grades (which is the subject of this thread) there is no PUP Euro, only PP Euro. How's that for a real difference?

Saw a couple dozen quarts of PP Ultra 0w-40 at my local AZ. Is that the same as Euro? At $4.00/qt it was being liquidated. It wasn't cheap enough for me to buy it yet.

Same stuff I saw,
Not a Euro oil, just a good synthetic 0w-40...

Keep an eye out in AutoZone,
I got six quarts Castrol Edge 0W-30 for $4 a quart...
