Does anyone in the US care about the coronation in the UK?

I have no interest in watching the coronation. If I was a UK citizen I might say what a waste of tax payer money. But I am a US citizen and feel there are many important things going on in the US and the world and the coronation is not one of them.

However if given the choice between being forced to watch the coronation and getting a root canal I would watch the coronation.

I cant speak for anyone else, but I don't care about it... it is worth saying that The Media force feeds this royalty (aka celebrity) crap to anyone unlucky enough to land on a news channel..

I don't understand why the British people haven't taken a lesson from the BoLsheviks and taken the advice of the Rolling Stone's and just got rid of the Czar and his Ministers

Obviously, there's a general sentiment that most here (including myself) won't watch the coronation. OK; fine.

But let's not debase a culture simply because we don't agree with it. The Royals mean much to many people in England, and around the world. That's fine by me; they can have their affinity for the Crown as much as I can choose to not be interested. I don't look down on that culture just because I don't subscribe to it.

Further, I can separate the man from the mission, so to speak. I don't care for the Prince; I'm not impressed with the King to be. But that does not mean I don't appreciate the historical significance of the Crown and some of the good people who've worn it. Queen Elizabeth was generally a well-liked Royal and promoted an even balance of civility and "rule". I liked QE. Admittedly, QE "ruled" in a time when there was a much lower concern for the form of governing monarchy; the system is pretty much ceremonial now. Gone are the days of the Crown actually "ruling" over the people in GB. Further, whereas many centuries ago, it was very difficult for anyone to get out from under the thumb of the ruling class, it's not been an issue for the last 100 years or so. If you don't want to live under the Crown, then pick up and leave to another country; it's not like you're stuck with no choice today. The faces change with time, not unlike our Office of the President. I can respect the Office though I may or may not like the person holding it at the time. Same goes for the Crown.

The reality is that the Crown means many things to many people. I don't have to disparage the Royals or the Brits simply because I don't want to live under that monarchy. Nor do I look down on some of the people of GB simply because they choose to embrace the Crown; perhaps they appreciate the history and find the pomp and circumstance appealing. I can assure you with 100% certainty I don't want other people looking at the Kardashians, Nicki Minaj, or Cardi B and then judging me for living in the States.

That's pretty much my thoughts exactly. Not concerned about the UK.. Or, really, any country (Canada, Mexico) unless they negatively affect us. 🇺🇸

But, I also don't watch TV... so.

It's OK to be a PATRIOT.

The French did it in 1789.

I'm presuming it will be broadcast and there are plenty of British descendants here so while I won't watch it, I'm 100% confident that yes, people in the US will watch it (and "care about it").

And FWIW, my parents were both born and raised in the UK so by UK law, I qualify to be a British citizen. You can be sure that my Mum will be watching too !

The beginning of what could possibly be as one of the shortest reigns in the history of the monarchy. He's 74 after all. I'll probably pass.

I find it interesting to see how royalty retains and values a good and long-standing tradition. A very civilized event and I admire it.
This, I guess. But I still wouldn't spend the time to go watch it.

I think the English Royalty is still at lot more admirable than the constant train-wreck of American's own royalty, i.e. the Hollywood bimbos and sports celebrities.

Two English couples were having it out in a Youth Hostel years ago.
One despised the monarchy, one admired it.

Reading this thread has left me as informed as that great argument 42 years ago.

My thoughts going in:
Things don't just happen, things develop.
They've been effectively side-stepped (overthrown).
Why a new PM has to go and ask 'permission' from the reigning monarch to form a new government is beyond me.

My conversational contribution, lame as it was, suggested that it was good for tourism. "The rugs and furniture are already paid for".

Perhaps these "window dressing" monarchies keep lines of casual communication between legislators and huge financers open and flowing freely? Yeah, that's it. The monarchies and bankers commiserate so that they can deliver economic soundness and international prosperity, peace and good will; all the while avoiding time-wasting public review.

My relatives in the UK regard the monarchs as parasites. I myself have no view on that except for that one pedo.

And no, I don't care about the coronation.

But for those of us that are old enough to remember it, it is amazing to see the difference in the amount of interest in this coronation vs the wedding, career and death of Princess Diana.

I won't be watching live, but I'll catch up with some YouTube highlights. Interesting to see a once or twice in a lifetime event.

I won't watch the coronation live or anything, but I think they might as well keep the monarchy going now.
Canada still has a governor general who is the King's representative here, and whose purpose is;

The governor general acts within the principles of parliamentary democracy and responsible government as a guarantor of continuous and stable governance and as a nonpartisan safeguard against the abuse of power.

I don't think its a bad thing anyways, to have an impartial final signature on what legislation the government of the time is passing, to make sure it follows the constitution. I don't think that power has been needed often in the constitutional monarchies that are left, but it puts a bit of limit on what governments propose I think.

I have a friend, of British descent, who thinks Camila is the devil reincarnated. Me, not so much. All good.
Wait, it that the coronation?
Zhuangzi (a philosopher as famous as Confucious) said, "The saints don't die, the thieves don't stop". Without comparing to Diana, Camila would just be a typical woman of the era.
