Do you get offended when someone passes you?

I pull into the hammer lane and overtake him, pull back into the slower lane (this is the Trans-Canada, it is 4-lanes at this point) and continue on.

Well, apparently he owns the highway and passing him is unacceptable

He cranks the 4-banger to the wall and [censored]-cannon's by me, pulls in front of me and slows down to 105 again.

I overtake him.

This repeats three or four times.

The last time he tries this, I drop to 3rd, pull to 6K in 3rd and 4th and put several Km's between us. Then I slowed back down to my set speed and we continue on.

Well, he's got all the hamsters working overtime and finally catches up to us as he gets to his exit. He's giving me the finger and yelling some obscenity in french as he takes the exit.

Some people have some serious psychological issues.

Nice.

I sawe someone on the Power Tour do something similar...a dude was running ~90 in an older Prelude when a few Tourers (My Caddy, Liz's Grand National, Tina's Z28 SS, a ZR1 Corvette, and a guy in a 70 Super Bee-a legit 6-pack car-leading the pack) passed him. He seemed to get mad, because he fed the chipmunks more Red Bull, passed us, flipped us the bird, and brake-checked the Bee. The guy in the Bee (who almost went into the guardrail avoiding him) punched it...a few miles up, we saw the Prelude pulled over with smoke pouring out from under the hood and the driver gesturing and yelling at us...maybe a mile later, we caught the Bee, which had slowed to ~65. He reported he was doing ~130 when the Quaalude blew up.
The frenchies HATE to be passed by an American, they all think they are born to be GP drivers.

This is an increasing problem on the road to my house. RT 611 South off of 3rd street for any locals. Granted it is the inverse, they get so mad they have to pass.

It is 25mph road until you pass a sewer plant and with good reason. Lots of blind curves and hard corners especially near a certain road. It is 1 lane road, double yellow almost constantly.

When you pull out of this road you have maybe 1-2 seconds to pull and get up to some reasonable speed which unfortunately is much more than 25mph. I am honestly surprised no one has been rear-ended from someone speeding as of yet. I never do more than 35mph and boy does that anger some people. They have no problem flying through each straight and braking hard at each corner like a road course. If they did a reasonable speed they wouldn't have to touch the brakes at all. However its much better to ride my tail the entire time, slowing down even more doesn't work, brake checking rarely does. I am speeding technically but that's not enough.

When I finally get to the turn for the house I slow down because it is a big hill so there is a depression in the road you could bottom out on. This is when they decide it is ok to pass on a double yellow even with oncoming traffic. On more than one occasion I've given them the honk to explain vocally what a douche they are. I will even follow them to get the plate number and report to the PSP.

Just did again last week to a kid in his "parents" new Kia Optima, tailed him for almost 10 miles down the road while on the phone with the PSP. Gave them the plate just in case he gets pulled over for something else. He tried to cut off 2 more people but traffic opposing prevent him from doing so. Well he turned off in front of me to turn around apparently because when I made my way back I found him parked down my the river smoking, probably scared the [censored] out of him. Good...don't endanger me and the oncoming traffic because you are in a hurry...

The worst was a guy in a newer Impala. He basically was using the opposite lane as much as possible much to the terror I'm sure of other drivers.

What IS it with these Froggys... I had the same experience in Nova Scoita with a baffed out Escort with Quebec plates. It was packed with people, so much so that the rear wheels were splayed out at about 30 degrees from vertical. We were in Olaf the Lazy, my 900 Turbo, the jackwagon tried to REPASS me on a downhill, more than once. Needless to say, a baffed out Escort is NO MATCH for a 900T. I played with him for a while, then just disappeared from his sight, I was afraid he was going to kill the entire lot of 'em, fishtailing all over the road. BTW, the folks who LIVE in Nova Scotia are FINE people and GOOD drivers.

No matter what speed I travel at, it seems no one wants to be behind my Caddy or others like it. It doesn't bother me much so I just let them go.

I don't mind, in general, and I like to have a rabbit out front. What I don't like is being passed by a POS which then dies a slow lingering death on the next hill. There seems to be a moron obsession with "not having someone in front of you". It's THEN that the pass/repass games start. After you pass at OVER the speed limit, at least STAY at the limit thereafter.

Also, changing lanes to pass just because you caught up to a slower vehicle is not your RIGHT. If you look in your mirror and realize that doing so will cut off the vehicle to your left you need to wait until that vehicle passes, even if it means you must slow down briefly. Trucks do it all the time on I-35. They move to the left, going uphill, and lose momentum. I guess they must be trying to save the fuel required to use the brakes and then accelerate. What's the excuse of the drivers of the CARS doing this?

I guess it's just more plexiotomy types thinking that they are part of the privileged class.

The gist of this post is just more griping from me about the lack of ability of people to think beyond this second - right now. Same reason, I guess, that they fly past you, cut you off, and then slam on the brakes at the tail end of the jam up that you saw up ahead.

This reminds me of something that happened to me last year. I came up behind a late 20s guy in an early 70's mustang on one of our busy state highways. It was one of those first beautiful warm spring days and he was evidently enjoying the weather and his car. I can appreciate a good Mustang (and my wife has informed me we are buying a classic one some day) but he had butchered this car with bling. About the only good thing it had going for it was a nice sounding exhaust....

Anyway, we come up on him and he stands on it and roars away. A minute later, we are back on top of him and he's driving 35 in a 55. We follow along, can's pass because of a double line, and then as soon as a passing zone comes on he romps on it again and tears away.
Rinse and repeat 6-7 times, and I'm starting to get ticked because it's getting pretty obvious he's playing with us. This is an extremely busy two lane, I was at the point of trying to pass him on the double yellow but never got the chance.

I’m driving my wife’s Rav4, which has a V6 in it. I won’t say the HP/weight ratio is obscene, but the thing has some serious get up and go for a kid hauler. It also has some serious torque steer, but that’s another post. Even so, there is no way I’m taking this guy head to head so I start working on a plan to outsmart him. I drive this road daily, so know where the good passing zones are. I wait for one to start coming up and fall back a little. About 50 yards from the passing zone (no cars coming yippee!) I put my foot into it and pull out to pass him about the time the line goes dotted. He’s pretty much oblivious to this maneuver until the point my hood crosses field of vision. The second it did I heard the Mustang engine howl as he floored it, but I had enough of a speed difference built up that I sailed around him. Pulled in front, put the cruise on 60 and watched him swerve back and fourth behind me trying to pass. Fortunately, traffic never let him and I turned off a couple miles later.

That still puts a smile on my face. Dude probably had some interesting explaining (compensating) to do to his gf/wife in the passenger seat after that. I can just hear it now - something like "I bet that Rav4 had a hemi in it!"

Happens all the time on a certain backroad I used to travel. A very decent 1/4-1/2 mile straight with a dotted yellow. I always pass someone doing 10 below the limit only to be greeted by the engine roar as I pass. The worst was when my wife passed a lady doing 25 in a 45 on that same road. She only drove the lowly Accent at the time so power was not something it had excess of and the lady seemed to take offense and nearly swerved into her on purpose.

No one cares if you prefer to go slow but don't expect to not get passed legally for doing so.

I remember test driving a V6 Rav4, it certainly is quick for what it is. Small to me on the inside but quick. The Forester(well both) were the same way. The expressions on a person's face as the SUV outed their feeble attempt at road rage were priceless.

I remember way back one time,i was in my 3000GT and there was this chick in some kind've suburban or something that kept *trying* to race me,and she wouldn't go away! I was on this hilly road where there was ALWAYS a cop taking radar like clockwork in the same spot every day. We were coming up on that spot so I downshifted and floored it for a split second. She guns it and leaves me in the dust......low and behold over the next hill, she is pulled over by said cop. I drove past, pointed at her and laughed, haha!! It was classic!!

I did the other day.. not sure why though I've cooled since then. A jeep grand cherokee did the pull in the other lane at a stop light. Of course the Festiva is slow as molasses but can handle fairly well unlike the PI in the jeep. He did the fly by and then proceeded to take his time doing the turn and didn't seem to like me riding his bumper. The Festiva with the bigger brakes could also stop faster than his Jeep could ever so wasn't worried. Someday's wish I drove the Escape everyday prevents 90% of those problems.

I do now...not THAT many 12-second cars out there. (With Liz's GN, that probably rises to 99%.) My Caddy looks stock & is generally ignored, but she gets all sorts of idiots trying to race.

^Oh oh, that was me, I think. LOL!

As several have mentioned, I like being passed, no matter how fast I am going, and I move out of the left lane to allow anyone to do so. Some people are so "on the edge" these days. I will not be the one who does something that pushes them over. Besides, yielding the passing lane is supposed to be "common courtesy."

I also move to the shoulder on 2 lane highways to let faster drivers around me. It's common courtesy, and me being an adult,I expect to receive the same courtesy if I happen to come up behind someone under the same circumstances. What I HATE are drivers in large utility vehicles,18 wheelers, trailer pullers, etc, who won't move over to let others pass. Especially if they're driving under the posted speed limit. That should be a ticketed offence, which on some roads driving under the posted speed limit is.

If you mean that you pull partially to the right (half the vehicle in the lane, half out), this can create a dangerous situation in that people try to squeeze by you with opposing traffic.

This happens when driving farm tractors on public roads and I've been taught NOT to partially pull off the road.

But, I keep an eye on vehicles behind me(farm tractor) and pull off entirely when needed to allow them to pass safely . Again, common courtesy AND safety (idiots in a hurry are reckless).

I move completely into the shoulder. Most of the 2 lane highways here have an adequately sized shoulder to do so. All the ones around here are 70mph,and like clockwork you'll end up behind some bozo going 55 who won't move over, creating a dangerous situation,as drivers will risk passing around curves, hills, etc, which is completely stupid for them to do.
