Do any of you change your own oil in one or two of your cars that you are able to do on your own with one brand that you are loyal to, but have another car or a truck that you are unable to change the oil in on your own and take to a dealer or quick lube who uses a different brand than you use, and does it bother you? I ask because my best friend loves his Castrol, but in his other car that is too difficult to perform an oil change on…we have no Castrol installers, and they charge out the keaster to use a brand other than what they provide..mostly Pennzoil around here.. Lucky for me  I’m brand loyal and I know it would bother me if I didn’t have the same brand in all my vehicles even though it wouldn’t hurt a thing. It’s sort of strange quirk and wondered if anyone else is the same way.

Tell your friend to take in his own oil, but use their filter. Most places will do that and reduce the price of the oil change.

My Honda dealer does not carry the oil I use, so I take my car to them and use their filters.

Im kind of like that. With both my honda's I will strictly use Pennzoil synthetics but with my yaris I could really not care. I try something different in that car all the time. Thinking Ill give Mobil Super 5000 a try, if there's a 5w20 flavor in a 5qt.

When I need an oil change I go to a privately owned shop. I take in my oil and filter for them to use and it cost me under $20.00 for them to change everything and check under the hood. I do not use the dealership because it would cost more and they usually have an attitude. Check around your area to find a place you will be happy with -- ask your friends where they go

Mobil Super 5000 is not a synthetic (Mobil 1). It is a good oil and a very good bargain @ $11.50 for the 5 quart jug at WM.

My brother and I use RLI. Mom's car gets Mobil 1 0w-40 and Dad's car gets BMW High Performance Synthetic 5w30.

None of us is brand-loyal, really; we're just using the products we feel are best for our individual cases. My brother and I are trying to get the most out of our oil while supporting a company we like, hence RLI. Our parents don't particularly stress their cars and are best served by staying well within the lines for warranty purposes and peace-of-mind, so they stick with the factory oil.

Doesn't bother any of us a bit. In fact, I have a hard time imagining why it would.

I used to use Mobile 5000( ithink its Clean 5000 and not super 5000 though)

All my walmart had was 5,10w30

I'm with ya Mark, I would have trouble doing that too. At first any way, maybe once I had to deal with it I could get used to it. Really is kinda silly but I think it may be like a brand OCD, I'm like that with lots of stuff. In fact I'm looking at trying K&N oil filters in the cars and because of that I'm thinking about trying the K&N air filter I have for my car and getting one for the wifes....

I'm thinking on switching both Tacoma and Jetta to Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30. The only other machines see a different oil are my yard equipment and air compressor...those get Amsoil.

Exactly..it's like I have this OCD...never did until I joined this site. I just feel incomplete unless all my vehicles have the same brand of oil in them. It's not so bad yet that I would worry if one had HM and the other syn or conventional of the same brand, but I could be heading in that direction

Well for example the 2006 Toyota p/u has had Castrol dino, Castrol GC, Chevron Supreme, Motorcraft syn blend, Pennzoil PP and Valvoline syn. Fram XG and TG filters, Motorcraft filters and Baldwin filter and Supertech filters. Viscosities 10w30, 5w30, 0w30 and 5w-20. and to be honest there really isn't any noticeable difference in the feel of the oils in mpgs or at startup "it doesn't get cold where I live maybe below freezing at night" Ford Superduty gets Shell or Chevron Delo 400 or Mobil 1300, I tried Syn in it once I could not tell any difference between the oils or in the mpgs. I have used Motorcraft filters and 3 oil changes were supertech filters Wallmart was closing out. John deere 4310 tractor same oils as in the truck and Dohn Deere branded filters,The Dealer sells them at fair prices Tractor hyd oils Chevron or Mobil. Any major oil is oil . I am not especially brand loyal.

All my vehicles have different brands and grades, depending which brand was on sale with/without rebate(s) when I bought it. I could not tell the differences between brands if the grades were close, such as 10W30 brand X and 5W30 brand Y. But I could feel the differences between xW40 and xW20.

In summary, I'm not loyal to any particular brand, I'm loyal to my pocket only.
