I'm not brand loyal. So far I've run Chevron Supreme HM, Pennzoil HM, and Pennzoil Platinum HM in my Camry. The Pennzoil was sent to me for free from Pennzoil. They want to send me more for free, but I wanna start using up my stash in my car.

My stash includes:
Pennzoil Ultra (the good old stuff)
Castrol GTX SynBlend
Mag 1 Full Synthetic
Motorcraft Synthetic Blend
Mobil 1 AFE
Mobil 1 EP
Valvoline SynPower
Valvoline MaxLife NextGen

I'm not afraid to run any of it in my car.

I might even do a frankenbrew mix of all different kinds and do a UOA afterwards.

I've always liked Valvoline products and run their high mileage oil all the time in my long term fleet.

In my lease I run Citgo per the OLM...

I pick one brand of oil for my engine based on UOAs and availability and stick with it throughout ownership. Now it is Pennzoil Platinum and OEM or ULTRA filter.

Well, I did use Valvo in the late 60s and early 70s.

I used to be a Mopar guy. Then when Dodge stopped making their FULL size trucks with enough headroom for me, and quality took a dive in the mid-2000s, (and they phased out the manual transmission!) I started to look elsewhere.

I guess the same goes for oil....I find a good thing and stick with it until it's not good any more.

Back in the 80s when I owned my first car I went with what I (and Consumer Reports) thought was the best conventional....Castrol; especially since I couldn't afford anything synthetic at the time. After Castrol fell from grace in the late 80s I went for the least expensive name brand for a couple of years (oh, for the days of the 79 cents per quart oil!)

In the early 90s after some research I used Valvoline in everything until 2004.

That's when I joined this God forsaken place

. Around that time, both the wife and I were driving in excess of 25000 miles per year. I switched to Amsoil and started extending our drain intervals to OM distances and beyond with UOAs.

Amsoil ever since.

If Amsoil quality slips I'll be moving on; all the modern oils are so good now.

I was very brand loyal to Penrite and Castrol. If I had to buy in a hurry, those are the two brands I would use.

Wanting to keep my eyes open and not rule out other good brands, I would sometimes used Valvoline and Shell (SOPUS).

So:
1st - Castrol & Penrite
2nd - Shell & Valvoline

I have only ever used those four brands, but right now I am strongly looking at Kendall because I can find a good local importer who can get me their GT-1 synthetic at a good price.

Right now I'm going through an exploring phase, and trying various weights and brands. But I am most happy when I find a vehicle and oil combo that work well together, then I just stick to that for the long term.

This forum has educated me a lot about oils, but I almost have too many choices now. It was easier when I just bought Penrite or Castrol.

Guilty.

Our family mechanic worked at a Oldsmobile/Buick dealership, when he retired he took a few customers with him to keep him busy. I never will forget the first day I walked into his shop and seen all the Valvoline stuff, posters, garbage cans, oil cases etc... I was hooked. He also had a storage cabinet full of Wix filters. So I figured if it was good enough for him it should work for me.

Since I been coming here I admit I'm having second thoughts on my oil choice for my truck. I found out the other day for sure my crate motor has a flat tappet cam so I may switch to something else, just need to figure it out. And there may be a better choice for my lawn mover.

Does negative brand loyalty count?

For..er..personnel reasons, I won't knowingly buy anything related to a company called..er..lets call them Moneywell.

I did buy some Bendix Ceramlube a while ago in ignorance, but lost it. Probably a Freudian slip.

There are so many good products out there that brand loyalty is
a bit silly.
Check my sig. I'll do a few runs of any decent oil in any vehicle. What those choices have in common is that they were all pretty reasonable in price.
Check my sig.
Three of those cars have FAR oil in them while the Focus has $10.00 AMIR M1 and the newer Accord has $3.60/qt TGMO bought off CL.
For whatever reason, you can always find cheap TGMO on CL.
Be loyal to your wallet.

I wouldn't say that I am brand loyal, but I've used Mobil 1 for years, it has always worked, and it is easy to get, so I have no reason to try anything else.

I used to be brand loyal to Mobil 1 for about 15 years. Back then, in my mind, if you didn't use Mobil 1, you were a lower form of life.

Nowadays, I don't care if it's conventional, high mileage, blend or synthetic. As long as it meets specs and will last the interval, that's all I care for now.

Yes, stuff like this can really imprint on you, especially when you are young.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with Valvoline. I like their DuraBlend, their MaxLife and their SynPower.

Same here, in the 80's GTX was the oil to use, and the first oil I ever purchased with my own money. I have not used GTX in many years, it was the old 20W-50 SG stuff last time I used it.

However, last week I put a modern API SN GTX mineral oil in my car, and so far I'm loving it. Running smooth and nice, plus a little bit more quiet than before. It was a very affordable oil too, that met the car OEM specs I needed.

It was GTX 15W-40, API SN, ACEA A3/B3. I picked up 5L plus an oil filter for a total of $20- That is the cheapest oil change I have done in years, but I still feel like I'm using a good name brand oil.
