Best value filter for the "7317" size?

I'm looking to get a replacement for what used to be the Supertech 7317, amazing value for the money, and worked on Subarus, Hondas, Nissans..
I used that in my Civic, my parents' both Subarus, and my brother in law's Acura.
(my STI gets M1-110, I only make an exemption for that car).

Now that the supertech 7317 is discontinued and you can only get the shorty, what is the next best option in terms of value for cars doing 6,000-10,000 miles OCIs?

I've been looking, and every filter under $5 either gives up the silicone ADBV (for nitrile), or gives up the metal end caps (like fram).
So I've been settling for the orange can, which I know gets the job done, but is there better value for the money at this point?

PG XL based filters. you should be able to find them pretty cheap through rock auto. for the mobil 1 filter, they’re beginning to transition to a manufacturer that has a very similar build to a PG XL filter. i would go with a PG XL based filter aswell in that application to save costs. they’re basically the same filter. you could also purchase a few online from Advance auto parts under the carquest premium name (PG XL is the MFR) with a coupon code to bring costs down. silicone ADBV, base end gasket, and 99% @20um.

here is the 7317 sized filter c&p (Carquest Premium 84356)

I would go with the PG4612EX from RockAuto. BrendanC has a ton of dissections of the CarQuest Premiums, aka the same thing.

If you read the fine print there are 3 numbers listed as alternate - and the other two are short cans. Thats what I got - short can. Fine if you want the short can, but its not really a 7317 replacement in my book.

The Ecogard X4610 can be found on amazon for less than $4 - its the Premium Gard standard filter - nitrile ADBV and gasket. Alternatively you can get a very well built Hengst on RockAuto for under $4.

If you step up to about $8 you can get The Premium Guard XL - which is a really good value also.

A lot of suggestions for the Premium Guard 4612 size filter...be aware that is the "shorty" version equivalent to a ST6607 or Fram PH6607. The Premium Guard size that is equivalent to the "tall" 7317 filter is PG 4610. If the OP is truly looking for an economy, jobber grade filter, the PG 4610 is $1.82 on Rockauto (before any discount codes).

They also have the Blue one now for those people who buy the Honda filters because of the color lol

Isn't the XL the one Murky mentioned here below ??
Yes - BUT...

I ordered them, and the fine print says they can (and did in my case at least) substitute the the 2876EX - which is the short can and what I got - Parts plus variant. Better to save your $5 and buy a Pentius on Amazon or go to Advance and at least know what your getting.

I think, correct me if I'm worn, the 4612 and the 6607 are the exact same size. I know the 6607 is a "FRAM" number, not sure about the 4612. I have used both interchangeably anyway.
