Which 7317 Fram ( or other sized filter ) for a 2.0 Honda commuter?

Once again, I mentioned that the Fram rep we had here said this. Do you read anything?

Since personal insults are now flying, I don’t think you know your head from a hole in the ground.
LoL ... "personal insults"? Tell me exactly were I made a "personal insult" to you. Fact is, you're the one that just made the personal attack comments right there ^^^. I'm just asking questions, and you seem all bent over it. I've read this board for 14 years, and never read anything about the Wix combo valves leaking from Motorking. I think you have some info twisted up along the lines somewhere.

I thought the Pentius was made in Vietnam and China also?
Most threads say they are the same as premium guard and microgard select

It's a different company and coming out of South Korea.. and that 12pk you linked is around $56 which is still an incredible buy..

You must not have a good memory. I’ve been here about as long as you so your time here means absolutely nothing to me

Motorking did say the Wix XP leaked internally and was probably part of its low efficiency problem, but the Wix XP & NAPA Platinum didn't/doesn't use a "combo valve". He said it was the interface of the adapter that sits between the ADBV and canister - the adapter that takes the place of the base end bypass valve when it uses a dome end bypass valve instead. The base end bypass valve when used is also a metal to metal seal between it and the end cap. Basically, a metal to metal seal that apparently wasn't sealing well, just like the metal to metal "seal" between a leaf spring and end cap. Combo valves are all rubber, so pretty hard for them to leak unless there was a major mess up there. If there's proof and talk about specifically combo valves leaking, then let's dig it up. Otherwise, not buying it.

Better re-evaluate that comment since you thought "in a not so distant past" that @Sayjac was OK with tearing media (your post 64). 🙃 😄

Pretty much any of them are better than the "honda filter" which is rated for 20K.

An OG 7317 is enough for may half ton for 20K miles and 5 years.

Glanced at this thread thinking that I might get some solid insights on a suitable filter for my HAH now that I'm all out of OG Ultras.
Wishful thinking on my part, I guess.

This thread is heading for the lock. Knock off all the bickering and lets talk filters.

Or maybe not! Every oil filter thread I read around here bashes something about them. Crap bypass. Leaking bypass. Something. Are there any good filters for Honda cars?

Depends on the definition of "good" - everyone has their own definition. And what are the "requirements" ... the OCI, efficiency, mileage rating, cost etc? The "requirements" all vary with everyone's opinions. IMO, just go get either a Mircogard Select, Carquest Premium, or STP XL and call it a day. Or not ... and just get the OEM (the safe answer).

At the moment as mentioned by @ZeeOSix and imo, currently the Premium Guard made filters seem to be the safest bet in aftermarket filters 'to recommend'. While the CQ Premium Blue 84356 has increased in price recently, with the 15% AAP online discount code, afaik still the best value of the PG made filters. Have to be careful with the AZ STP XL as some are made by Champ Labs in some areas and suspectable to seal area oil bypass issues seen posted here in multiple anecdotes. I'd pass on it. Look for XL with Vietnam or China coo. Beyond that you can use the most common Fram made A02 OEM. I don't use it and not a big fan, but it is Honda OEM.

When I got this commuter 2.0 civic last year ( I bought it new in 2024, I drive about 15k a year all highway ), I was going to use only OEM Honda filters. Today I decided that Im not... My local dealer sells them expensive and Id rather not get a fake one off line, thus my decision to get a Fram from Walmart.

My conundrum is, which 7317 Fram should I go with? I plan on running the oil based on the OLM. I do not plan on running it down to the bare minimum though, so around ~40% or so is when I would change it out. I would prefer to change the filter out every time, and not run one for two OCIs. Regardless, I know you guys know what filters works best and where, and I appreciate it.

thanks!
I have 3 Honda Odyssey's. I stopped using the Honda OEM filters when I found out their filtering efficiency is only about 67%.

I use the low priced Fram Extra Guard PH7317 which sells on Amazon for $3.50 a filter with Amazon Subscribe and Save.
It's efficiency is 95% for particles > 20 microns, which is much better than the Honda OEM filter.

I've been using the Fram PH7317 for years. No issues at all. I change my oil when the OLM reaches 30%, which is about 5,000 miles.

I also like using the Fram Synthetic Air Filters (available only at Walmart) which are rated at 4 year / 40,000 miles. Their efficiency is better than any other air filter.
