I had put 6,200 miles on Havoline DS. Didn't take a sample. I didn't feel like spending the money. After talking to two other people on here that just switched their cars over to Amsoil 0w-20, and hearing how it's improved the engine performance slightly, I went and put it in. I'm back to driving a lot and really need to start extending drains a bit. This oil is also going in my fiance's Mazda 3.
99% of the time I don't buy into the idea that oils can make a noticeable difference in engine repsonse. I still believe that, but also believe their are exceptions. Right now I have 66k miles on my car. I've used M1 EP, M1 0w-20, RL 5w-20, GC, Amsoil 5w-30 SM, MC, Havoline DS, and now Amsoil 0w-20. Whatever Amsoil has done since API SM, it's a nice improvement. I've said before I would do a UOA on some of the other oils, but when the time comes, I just don't feel like forking out the $$ when this particular engine shows low wear on virtually any oil. I do hope to do a UOA on this and the 3. I like using the same oil for both cars.
On a side note, the most sluggish engine response was from the oils with the highest HT/HS (RL and GC). The others were all good, don't get me wrong, but the Amsoil definitely feels better. After 6k miles or so with the same oil, you can usually rule out other potential variables like gas quality and weather. This leads me to believe that some oils can make a difference in engine response.
