54 week old LG refrigerator failure

Great. I got an LG French door bottom freezer in 2020. We had an LG stove and microwave that have been great for 12+ years. I hope I got a good one. The in door icemaker is junk. Always jamed but whatever.

I understand the hate for different lines of appliances. Truth is there are no appliances with the service life that we used to expect. It is a crap shoot now. I do believe you are better off doing as samvin recommended. I hate so called smart appliances. More crap to go wrong.
We have a GE LP gas dryer. So far it is 3 years old and it has averaged one repair each year. Wife complains it does not dry properly.

... Or at least got one with a better warranty. 😎
Moral of the story: Check the warranty on your high ticket appliances before you buy them.

Examples of refrigerators with a different warranty? (Hint: They all have the same 1 year warranty / 5 years on the sealed systems...

My Lg frig was repaired with my extended warranty at 2 years old and I got a 300 check for lost food.
Glad I got a 5 year warrenty

My itty-bitty town has a local plumbing/hvac/electrical shop that sells appliances on the side. They sell Crosley-branded appliances (spare me the sermons. I know Crosley is name only and just rebranded) that still have a ten year warranty. My side-by-side Crosley fridge is going on 8+ years without needing warranty work, knock on wood.
Anyway, it’s got a better record than my brother’s LG.

I have a Subzero fridge but also have a GE fridge in the garage.

We had to wait for the Subzero to be made and delivered for our new home and bought a GE garage rated fridge at Lowes. It sits in the garage unplugged. The GE is garage ready rated, has old fashioned mechanical fridge/freezer thermostats and might have a more reliable compressor to handle the high summer heat of a garage. The Subzero fridge is supposed to last 20 years. I could have bought a box truck full of the GE fridges for what the Subzero cost.

Everyone I know with an LG refrigerator has had the compressor fail before the 5 year mark.

I had a brand new home HVAC system put in. The outdoor unit had an LG compressor. Died the first day I used it!

I also avoid Korean appliances, other than televisions. But I have an LG dehumidifier that is still working after 22 years.
For refrigerators, washers, dryer, I prefer appliances made by Whirlpool. We have a Bosch dishwasher that is so quiet, I can only tell it is running by seeing its display illuminated.
LG is a Korean company ...... yes but LG is made in about five different countrys

Premature failure (little over 2 years) of a Samsung french door here. Bought the long warranty, but when the compressor failed, NOBODY they were contracted with would work on it because the refrigerant was propane-based. So, $3200 down the drain. I did my best to do $3200 worth of damage to Samsung's reputation online.
Someone had put propane in the refrigerant?

Propane is actually easy to work with-put a line tap on the low side, cut the high side with a tubing cutter, use nitrogen to push out any residual propane, making sure the space is well ventilated to prevent it collecting in a low area (heavier than air). A combustible gas detector is a good idea, but not really absolutely necessary. No recovery needed either! Clowns better get used to working with it, EVERYTHING uses it now in small appliances. Even my new cheap Haier window A/C uses it!

This is why I don't want to "upgrade" our refrigerator. It was 10 years old when we bought this house 15 years ago. 13 years ago it failed, turned out to be a relay in the power supply, I fixed it with a $50 replacement part.

New appliances are unnecessarily complex, less reliable, and not user serviceable. My wife remodeled the kitchen this year and I let her do whatever she wanted except replace the fridge.

I have a GE bar fridge thats around 15 years old it has a LG compressor don't know how that poor thing still runs ! its in my garage and for the last week by the afternoon it's been floating around 100 degrees and its running and maintaining 37 to 40 degrees.

Two year old LG side x side in our place died in the middle of our kitchen remodel. Replaced it with a Whirlpool which just had it's icemaker replaced under Costco extra year warranty.
LG..decent laundry appliances...run from LG kitchen appliances.
