2022 Ford Maverick

Fellow Ranger owner/fan here. FWIW, the Maverick has a higher payload capacity than our old Rangers (1500 lbs vs 1100 lbs that mine has). I get the apprehension about CVTs, but you really can't compare CVTs in hybrid vehicles with CVTs in regular gasoline-only vehicles. The way they work is entirely different. Hybrid CVTs don't have any belts or chains like gas-only CVTs, and they're super reliable. And the CVT comes with only the hybrid Maverick; the gas-only Ecoboost Maverick has a regular 8-speed automatic.

I also wish it was available with a longer bed and a smaller cab. Other than that, this truck would be perfect for my needs. I really like it a lot. But my '06 also meets my needs perfectly, is still in good shape, still has low mileage and will go for a LOT longer, and is paid for, so I won't be buying any replacement anytime soon.
The lack of a truck base is something I'm still not sure about, despite the on paper capabilities. I don't see this thing taking the beating my 3.0 Ranger bucket has over the years, and the Explorer is still top notch at everything but MPG.

But, I also think it might work for me...as long as the ol reliables are still in the driveway.

I predict it will be a big seller for Ford.

Watching some other videos I noticed that Ford has the numeric keypad lock instead of a keyless entry system. That is a step backwards.
Or they have both … the PSD guys leave them running at the quick mart … use that number pad …
You can also set up two codes that unlocks and makes seat adjustments for that driver …

Watch the Doug Demuro video. He is about 6'3" and he was able to sit in the back behind the driver's seat in the position he had it set for him. He was impressed with the back seat room for such a compact vehicle.

I watched his video, as well as Tommy from TFL (he's 6'1" I believe) and they both had their knees jammed into the back of the drivers seat. Believe it or not, a rear facing child seat requires a lot more space than a 6' tall human.

i just want to know how good traction will be on the front wheel drive model with a heavy payload or pulling a trailer?
On pavement, dirt or grass? Might be just fine on pavement. I mean, minivans are rated for similar loads and probably are yet heavier in the rear of the van.

If you want a big enough back seat to be able stretch out then the Maverick is not for you. For what it the vehicle is the back seat appears to be fairly roomy, but of course to do this they had to sacrifice bed length.

"Those after more power can opt for a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft."

Ford is on a roll - EV Mustang, EV F-150, Bronco and Maverick.

There are MANY vehicles sold new in Mexico that would never meet U.S. crash standards. Some don't even have airbags. So-it's not just a matter of "bringing them here".
All vehicles sold in Canada (except a few pickups via dealer) can’t be brought into the US since manufacturers will never provide a letter of conformity (even though all Canadian domestics pass all US requirements and have the same pollution controls.

Safety and emissions have nothing to do with market protection, though some like to pretend it is the reason.

It’s an interesting vehicle. I think it will sell well. The hybrid platform will be similar to what’s been used in the C-Max, Fusion Hybrid and Escape Hybrid. The CVT transmission is new. The 2.0 Ecoboost version has plenty of power for vehicle size and the 2.0 Ecoboost has been a reliable engine. It will be good for folks that don’t do a lot of hauling or towing and need a bed for certain items. That’s a plus for getting gas for your OPE. I probably wouldn’t buy one for my personal use however, my wife would enjoy it.

Too bad it has zero configuration options

Give me a 2 door
Bench seat
Long box

Never happen but that would be perfect for me

Little motor with a manual transmission would get the same highway MPG and best of all no hybrid tax penalty
True but ford has a low price for a reason. They're maximising their margins by focusing on what's gonna sell and not on what isn't. By having one offering that is gonna get the most sales they'll spend the least but get the most.

a manual tranny, 2 less doors + a longer box + NO complicated hybrid 4 wd but awd ok + it works for me, BUT buyers will be the BETA testers so in 3 to 5 years + close to a 100 thou miles later we will see if its reliable!!!! i like KISS-keep it simple stupid!!
Although true about being an early adopter this Ford Maverick isn't all that new. it does use the same drivetrain and platform as the Ford Edge and it's basically just a rebodied one so I can't see it being a heap.

Well, I might not be getting a Maverick now.

I built it online and clicked to reserve with my local dealer. I spec'd it with the 2.5 hybrid and most of the options (lariat, alto blue which costs extra, luxury lariat package, ford 360). Comes to $31,255. The dealer wants $500 non-refundable to place the order. I'm like ok fine. However, then they wanted to charge me an extra $3,100 for their truck prep package (spray in bedliner, tint, nitrogen, wheel locks and some kind of anti theft device). I tell them the spray in bedliner comes in the luxury lariat package from ford. So then they want $1,500 as the costs for the extras and for dealer add on markup over the build price.

I told them I would pass. I'm not going to play that game. I'm going to try another dealer and if they try to do the same, I'll probably write any Ford off my list for a while.

Dealers are going to play that game with any new model, especially one getting as much attention as this.

no it's not. those vehicles listed all used an eCVT.. which isn't really a cvt... it's a planetary gearset paired with the 2 electric Motors(one of which is clutched to the Crank) all within the transmission housing.
Ford's used this same basic engine/eCVT (with minor changes/refinements) since launching the Fusion/Escape hybrids in the early 2000's.
and while they licensed some Toyota patents back in the development phase, The HF35 eCVT is a Ford design, that Toyota later copied and used starting with the '16+ Prius. (and the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid uses a stunningly similar design as well)
yes, techincally the pre-2012 units were built by Asin, but the differences were minor at best. Ford just moved to an In-house production.

all to say, there's nothing new here as far as the drivetrain goes. and not really with the body either... it's a bronco sport with a small bed grafted on the back. (and let's not forget the Bronco Sport is based on the current Escape, which was always designed to have a hybrid version. )
it's a "parts bin special" if you will... made up of various bits of existing models on the same platform...
