Rule One - some oil is better than no oil. A corollary is that a full crankcase is better than a partial one. It helps the oil by allowing more volume to dissipate stress and heat. You did

Rule Two - use oil at least equal to, or better than, the OEM specification. You did

Rule Three - top up with what is at hand. Better to have more clean oil than less dirty old oil. You did

Observation - if your vehicle is not consuming oil much (L per 2,000 miles), it will not affect your downstream pollution control devices worth thinking about. Almost all the OEM's allow for some consumption. For many it's 1 qt/L per 1,500 miles or even less. What's your consumption rate?

If you have a 5 qt/L system and you added one, you have 20% of the new stuff and its additive package. You have 80% of the original oil. Which do you think is contributing to anything worth thinking about ...
