YouTube - I'm out...

My Adblocker still works 100% on YouTube. I used to run both uBlock Origin and Ghostery but Ghostery sometimes affects site usability, not necessarily on YT but on other sites. I now use only uBlock Origin. Windows 10, the latest version, fully up to date. Zero ads on YT.

I do have 4.4. Ha! What is THIS? I just unchecked the box.............

ABP started that program over a decade ago, after it decided to try to get in bed with advertisers.

Ghostery was also a part of the ad business, under ownership of a marketing analytics company.

Brave, another piece of software that uses privacy as a branding strategy, has engaged in practices that have not been of liking to users.

Mozilla relies on that well-known advertising company, Google, for most of its funding, for making it the default search engine on Firefox.

There are a lot of practices, some more questionable than others, in the "privacy"-branded software business.

Even uBlock has had its share of issues. uBlock Origin only exists because the original developer didn't want to bear the workload to maintain it, so he transferred the project to another developer who then tried to play money games, going against the wishes of the original developer. So he had to create a new fork from his own project that did adhere to his own principles, and named it uBlock Origin to distance itself from uBlock, which was later acquired by ABP.

A lot of this stuff won't matter to most users, many of whom will never even entertain the thought of changing the default browsers on their devices.

But for those who do like to know, and care about what they run, they cannot rely on blind trust, and should peek behind the curtain to see what they do, and do not agree with, and act accordingly.

YouTube Premium is worth it and it includes music.

I don't pay for or watch cable TV. Sometimes I'll turn on Amazon Prime or YT on the plasma screen. Yes it's an older plasma unit, that's how little I watch TV!

As a YouTube Premium member and a DuckDuckGo paid user, I enjoy an ad-free experience. However, YouTube’s increasing censorship of my content has been noticeable, even without explicit warnings. I suspect it’s only a matter of time before they decide ban me entirely. At my age, I’m not overly concerned if this happens. 🤷‍♂️
