In the same vein, interesting how Inline 6s are also making a comeback now, with the new Mazda one and the new Stellantis six. What's old is new againIt is. I like how Mazda is pairing the RWD option with the SkyActiv X six. Kind of a blend of old style and new technology.
I think variety is good and the CX50 and CX60 will fill slightly different nichesIn some ways I think Mazda would have been better off bringing this CX60 to the US instead of the CX50.
That will be a big hit.
the 8 speed is a dual clutch.

A new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic
Mazda will debut an all-new transmission with the CX-60. This time, it will introduce an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that “offers drivers smooth and responsive gear shifting with clear, smooth gear steps”.
Mazda says that the new dual-clutch shifts like a torque converter automatic (via planetary gears and multi-plate clutches) but has a multi-plate clutch (instead of an hydraulic converter) as an input clutch, as well as an integrated electric motor/generator.
Despite offering eight ratios instead of Mazda’s existing ‘SkyActive-Drive’ auto’s six gears, the plug-in hybrid CX-60 is doing just under 2000rpm in eighth gear at 100km/h, which is almost identical to what a 2.5-litre petrol CX-5 auto is doing in sixth.
This transmission will be standard across the Mazda CX-60 range.
ah yes the totally best in class 6-speed automaticUntil I see confirmation from a known reliable source I’m going to say that report is in error. Mazda already has a great transmission design. It locks up very early. Shifting to a dual clutch makes no sense in my opinion.
This will be available in the US later on as the CX-70. PHEV version with SkyActiv 2.5 or the new SkyActiv X 3.0 six cylinder mounted longitudinal and rear wheel drive.
