2026 Mazda CX-5 Revealed

HATE the screen and connectivity. It's buggy, glitchy and just doesn't work sometimes.

Try a high-quality (lots of copper) cable, not longer than 1 feet. Makes a big difference. YMMV.

I like how out cx-5 drives and handles. We have been talking about a cx-7. But if that gigantic horrid looking screen is the direction they are going, count me out.

I like it. I drove a N/A version awhile back and it had plenty of power. I kinda like it without the turbo complexity. Adding dimension is a welcome plus.
I've been a huge Mazda fan for a long time. Very few manufactures hold and keep their engineering roots as well at Mazda. The CX-5 handles very well.
When I have driven the competition, I always find myself enjoying the CX-5 experience the best. Also... one of the few companies that hasn't jumped on the whole CVT bandwagon. Nothing wrong with a great 6-speed. Me thinks people get to hung-up on numbers and so forth. Yeah, I'd take one of these new ones any day.

Previously, the CX5 was the most likely SUV I would buy, but not that one. (I prefer sedans/hatches/wagons, but I shuttle my elderly parents a lot, and my dad has trouble getting in cars, especially my second-gen Mazda 3). I do like that it hasn't gone to a CVT, at least. I'd still likely pick a CX-5 over a CX-50, though, as the few examples I've been in had a difference in build quality.

I feel like this is "malicious compliance" from Mazda. "We tried keeping buttons and a knob to reduce driver distraction, but you all kept shouting 'touchscreen! touchscreen!' So fine, here. En-joy."

This is what getting old feels like, though, I suppose. I used to be fascinated by new technology and all the possibilities, but the dashboard iPads make me cringe. (I also dislike the large screen on recent Subarus, especially as it combines a touch screen with slow response.)

I’m disappointed they made it bigger. Why? It was fine the way it was. They have the CX-50 and CX-70. This leaves a gap between the CX-30 and the larger SUVs.

What's not obvious in these photos is that the new CX-5 is a lot longer than before, as its overall length has grown by 4.5 inches, putting its overall length at around 185.6 inches. Mazda says it's about a half-inch wider too, and its wheelbase has been stretched three inches, which suggests there are now 109.2 inches between its axles. That increase is said to significantly improve passenger space and cargo volume, though Mazda hasn't yet shared any dimensions.

I agree! I currently have a 21 CX5 and a 25 CX30. If I needed something larger I would get a CX70 or something else but I don't need something larger nor want it. I like the size of my CX5, it's perfect for my needs and I doubt I'd get the new one. In fact I'm currently looking for a new 25 CX5 to last me for the next 5 years (I trade in every 5 years or so). While the size changes for the new one might be good for some it's a deal breaker for me and maybe for a lot of people who like the current generation. Seems like it creates a gap between the CX30 and the new 5 which they will unlikely fill. Note: I recently test drove a new CX50 and I doubt it will fill the gap. Interior space has a strange feeling with the very noticeable lower ceiling height. It, however, had very nice road manners and handling. The back seat in the CX50 Hybrid is a joke and it's sad the compromises Mazda had to do to find room for the hybrid battery (under the seat). There's far less leg room and head room in the back. I'm 5"10" and my head rubbed the roof liner in the back seat.

Eww. That high front end is not becoming, and the interior looks like they slapped an ipad in the middle of a 1975 F150 (great truck, I owned one).

The CX-50 is made in Alabama, so depending on how the tarrifs thing evolve next year, the CX-5 made in Japan may have a hard time to compete in the US market.

It falls in line with the good looks of it's larger stable mates. The size increase is puzzling however.
