Why Royal Enfield is Destroying Harley Davidson

The majority of younger riders want nothing to do with the Harley-bike night culture and most people find it cringeworthy.
yes i would imagine so

Our local PD some 10yrs ago decided to go only HD. It took them longer to purchase them than to replace them after, again, with BMW’s. You can see occasionally 1-2 HD’s, but becoming really rate sight.

Proof by performance: Five year stock price.

During that time the Dow Jones average was up almost 50%.

Its no secret young folks are not buying Motorcycles. One would need to go outside and learn how to ride a bicycle before that could happen.

As a now aging guy my words has changed and is changing into a world I no longer understand.
Prior to Covid bars with live music did last call never before 1:30 am now 11:00 pm my resort town is dark! Heck I can't even order a pizza late anymore as my late night delivery Pizza Hut closes at midnight!

One example that hits close to home for me a pro AV and Audiophile. At one time it was many a young mans dream to own a big stereo with Big Speakers, Now a soundbar and portable bluetooth speaker is all most folks want but a small group of us dedicated lovers of Music still love it and still buy the good stuff but much less people will buy the good stuff but some will.

I see the same thing possibly happening with motorcycles, less want it and less may buy but the love of the sport may still resonate with a select few. Heck, people no longer drink beer or smoke... kids can't drive a stick shift so how will one ride a motorcycle?

Time will tell but I hope everything fun and dangerous does not end.

We actually do have a Royal Enfield to go with our Harleys.
It's a little 350 that I bought used for $2500.

It makes 19 horsepower and will run 55-60 all day. Hits the rev limiter at 70-ish.
Averaging 74 miles per gallon over the last seven tanks.

Great for rolling up on a hitch carrier and then running around the camp grounds.

There's a ton of 'em out there with very low miles bike for half the price sitting in garages."
^^That's the way I heard it.
"Joe Image" buys a motorcycle, is almost killed because he's an incompetent rider (doesn't know how o counter-steer) then sells the bike, perhaps a year or two later.

Yes perhaps Hybrid, EV's and skinny jeans is more someones speed... It takes all kinds... Always come back to South Park...LOl it its Funny...
Nah, thats delusional confirmation bias - absolutely matches the Southpark skit. I am in my 50's, grew up on a farm, not driving any EV, and my lard but would scoff at skinny jeans, and you wouldn't catch me dead on a HD. Same with anyone I know. Funny - I grew up thinking they were cool - but now I don't.

I see lots of young guys here on bikes - just not giant road bikes - more like cafe racer or smaller dual sport stuff.

I was going the speed limit yesterday and signaled to change lanes. Out of nowhere - a Ninja bike flies up at maybe twice the speed limit - and just mad as a hornet (single finger) that he had to slow down enough to fly around me on the other side. Of course a minute later we are stopped at a red light side by side and he’s looking straight ahead.

I never met a motorcycle or a motorcycle brand I didn't like as I respect anyone on 2 wheels thats not riding in a cage.
To me, something special about this attached pic of a room full of old Harleys that a picture of a room full of old Kawasaki (s) would just not be the same. Its like trying to explain art, you see it or you don't and thats what makes art special to some but not all.

many bikes.webp

Man, I wish I could still ride...

Unfortunately, you can find those who are a putz on every type of bike, and in every type of car or truck.

I like them all.

Well, I was going to say that they, including myself, aren't Harley haters, they just aren't lovers. But since then, I see that there is some real hate.

It's nothing new. I've always found it ridiculous. Some riders seem incapable of appreciating any bike which isn't exactly like the one they ride.

As I said earlier in this thread:
Riders are sometimes their own worst enemy. Treat other riders with contempt solely because they happen to be on a different brand or style of bike. Or generalizations such as "Harleys are for old guys", or Sportbike riders are all squids with a death wish...
