Exactly....YOUR EXPERIENCE. This is not the 'norm' nor is it typical. Most police that I have dealt with in my 45 years on this planet differs 100% from yours. Perhaps Houston does have a corrupt force, I don't know. But to put out blanket accusations and labels about what cops 'are' (as in bullies) is simply not fair. If Houston has a majority of bad cops I suggest you and others should consult legal means of correction.

How many contacts have you had? Why did you have them? What did they do to you?
Speaking from my law enforcement background, there are good and bad apples in every job. People have good and bad days in every job. Maybe you caught them on bad days. That is not an excuse for bad behavior but understandable.
I am lucky enough to work in a smaller city with almost all good people. Imagine some of these areas these officers have to work in and the people they have to deal with on a daily basis. Then imagaine working in a prison around all bad people and see how that might effect you.

To answer your question, I suppose it's some of the old nature vs nurture debate. I'd think it's more nurture than nature.
As for the two culprits, if this happened on school grounds I would hope a long term suspension was given to both. It's obviously very serious and both need to be seriously disciplined. They would be very lucky not to be charged with some juvenile offense.
Head injuries can be very tricky as seen by Natasha Richardson's recent death after a skiing accident. It's good and lucky that he made it to the hospital and ICU. Hopefully he will make a complete recovery.
That said, there is no excuse for that type of behavior, and it should not be tolerated. Wishing a speedy recovery to the boy and his parents

Never said my opinion was more valuable. But for obvious reasons, it is valuable to me as yours is to yours.....but c'mon man, you SERIOUSLY believe such an ignorant statement as 'cops are bullies'?? That really doesn't put a whole lot of value on your opinion, like it or not. Blanketing a very large group of professionals as one thing or another is truly intellectually invalid.

I agree. I know several cops personally, and they are all very nice guys, but I've never encountered them in a 'police' situation, so I don't know how they act on the job.
I do know that about a half a dozen guys I was in high school and junior high with were bullies, and they all became cops.

I believe most cops are in it for a power trip, this is my obversation of 60+ years. A few aren't but by and large there is an awful lot of bulling by the police force. Even now to the point they call us "cilivans", does this mean they are now a para military force?
And NO I have never been arrested or been in trouble with the law. Got a traffic violation once tho.
