we hear all about pennzoil all the time, and M1 (im a fan) but what about the "underdogs"? regardless of syn, dino, or blend. my thoughts are Mobil Clean 5k, valvoline in any make/flavor, and havoline DS/chevron.......anyone else? (note i didnt mention edge due to the BP contraversy)

MTD/WHITE (mfg: Olympic Oil Co.) Winter 5w30 API SH (high ZDDP). Runs great, Virtually no scent or color to the virgin oil. Found it at Lowes in the Snowblower Parts Aisle. I have to run and post a VOA someday. You really want to try a retro high-ZDDP 5w30 dont you?

Other than that, for penny pinchers, Formula Shell 5w30 SM is the least problematic conventional I've run in the past decade.

I know Pennzoil is popular here but when I talk to my friends who are car guys, everyone uses Mobil1, no one even considers Pennzoil.

I like to try Edge. But walmart ain't got it and I'm not paying per quart prices at parts stores.

+1 On that I totally agree QSUD is an awesome oil, gives as good of a UOA as PP.

There are no sleeper oils in this forum but for those that aren't part of BITOG I would say German Castrol and Mobil 0W-40. Both are reasonably priced and readily available and are fantastic.

watch for deals via aap or orielys, you can often find 5qts and a M1/Bosch D+ for around $32

I'd say Service Pro products. They make nearly all grades for gasoline engines. We run their HD 15w-40 diesel oil on our farm and I've done plenty of UOAs on their oil and they nearly always come back great. It's the cheapest oil we can find in bulk too. I just wish they made an HD 10w-30.

No Oreily stores in Northeast. But thanks I'll keep an eye out at AAP.
