I have a buddy on a budget and he has a truck similar to my 99, but it has the 5.4. In the past we have always used M1 syn but he has comeup on some hard times. Lucky he realizes not to neglect his nehicle during this time.

My question is M1 5000 or PYB? any other suggestions are welcomed. MC 820s will be used

Thanks everyone

Yeah that was my thought also but he is in Northern AZ and they dont. The wally carries PYB, Mobil, QSGB, ST, and I believe Havoline. Im driving up in about 2 hours for the weekend and we wanna knock out the end of summer servicing

Also, some say the numbers can come out better using the expensive oil for a longer duration.
You can actually save money with the expensive oil!

But I like the PYB.

Good TBN (9.0, I've heard). Mobil is confident the oil can go 5k. I'm sure PYB could too, but they're not openly claiming that. People on BITOG love PYB though I've yet to see anything proving it is vastly better than most other commonly-available dinos.

Pep Boys currently has the 5+qt jug or 5x1qt bottles of PYB + Purolator Classic filter for $11.99 after rebate. Or for $3 more you can get a Bosch Premium filter. Pretty hard to beat that deal if you don't mind waiting for the $7 rebate.

+1 on this I agree you spend $10 more on the good syn and you can go farther. AAP has lots of good deals and M1 Syn at walmart is about $10-11 more than MCraft. Good syn is actually a better deal.

Both NAPA and Farm & Fleet have M1 for $5.98/qt. Some stores also have the $12/15 rebate depending on whether or not you got a filter. That makes M1 as low as $4/qt.

I have read posting that K-mart is clearing out old stock of SM oils at very low prices. If you have K-mart near you , give them a try. FWIW-Oldtommy

Not an accurate statement. We have seen plenty of vehicles (and EVERY manufacture out there proves) that going blindly past the recommended OCI with ANY oil is not a wise choice. (Please show me any manual that states if you run conventional the OCI is x and with syn the OCI is longer. I've never seen one)

I would not be recommending it for EVERYONE. Esp when you don't KNOW the vehicles condition, how it is driven, in what conditions and such.

Back to the OP, either is a EXCELLENT oil and will do the job just fine. Personally whatever is the cheapest is the one I'd get. Right now I think Mobil gets the nod since its $2 cheaper. Quaker State is another great choice.

I agree. But I don't do PepBoys for 2 reasons.

1. They do not have any customer service.

2. 35 miles one way from me.

But #1 is the main reason why I don't do Pepboys.

Take care, Bill
