What grade of HPL oil are you using?

Tundra 5.7 5w30 HPL PCMO -sold
2022 Camry 2.5 awd HPL 5w30 NO VII summer/ winter 0w30 Prem +
Camry rear diff/transfer case HPL Diff life 75w90
2024 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins HPL Diff life 75W90 in rear diff
Champion generator 8750w about to use HPL 5w30 but undecided on NO VII vs PCMO (have some of each leftover)

I'm just using up my stash of HPL EC30, adding it in 1/5 ratio with a low priced dexos 1 gen 3 high mileage full synthetic 5W-30 for 5,000 mile oil changes using a Fram Ultra 20,000 mile oil filter, in the hopes the filter won't fill up during the 5,000 run with HPL EC-30.

The hope is that the significant orange/brownish varnish my mechanic showed me on the 2006 Odyssey EX-L during a valve cover gasket replacement will be cleaned by the HPL EC-30 over the next year.
I have yet to see EC30 remove any kind of varnish as evidenced by pics shown here.

I had 2 previous 5k OCI with HPL EC 30 in a 1 to 5 ratio with high mileage full synthetic 5W-30.
Then I had the valve cover gasket leak, where my mechanic showed me the significant orange/brown varnish right under the valve cover.
So maybe it was even worse before that and HPL EC 30 cleaned it a little, or perhaps HPL EC 30 didn't clean the varnish at all.

It would be interesting to do four 5k OCI with Valvoline R&P, and then to remove the valve cover to see if the varnish is gone.

Do you think the EC30 contributed to the leak? I always wondered about that product and others like VRP cleaning out deposits and causing leaks

I had a small doubt about that. Van had a new valve cover gasket installed 2 years earlier (but with an aftermarket gasket).
When this 2 year old aftermarket valve cover gasket started leaking, it was an expensive job, as oil leaked into the coil packs and hosed them, so with the coil pack replacements too, was like $800 total including parts and labor. I attributed it to the aftermarket valve cover gaskets, but still, it's unknown if any of the cleaning I was doing caused an $800 repair. To be fair, I also did some solvent based engine flushes as well before each of those 2 oil changes.

As exciting as cleaning out the engine to "like new" cleanliness sounds, it has the potential to do a lot of financial harm if it affects your gaskets or seals. In retrospect, I'm thinking it's better to just use any high mileage full synthetic oil of your choice with a reasonable OCI (like 5k miles), and not do any cleaning. With an older vehicle, treating the oil seals with a high mileage full synthetic oil to prevent leaks is more important in my opinion, as oil leaks cost money to fix, and you don't want the car leaving oil stains in your garage or on your cement in your driveway.
