What filter to use on a 2015 ES 350

I watched The car care nut channel on YouTube and he recommends the OEM filter for Toyota products which I know are rock catchers. What do you recommend? Do the people on here with high miles on Toyota use the OEM filters exclusively or something else?

I run OEM Toyota, 1 has 300,000 the other has 160,000 both 1MZ-FE engines.

Stick with OEM Toyota, they are readily available at Walmart now days.

Toyota filters are available at Walmart, AutoZone & AdvanceAuto.
IDK if Toyota oil filters are only rock catchers but if you're not fond of the Toyota filters, there are others such as:
Mobil1, FRAM Ultra(or ENDURANCE), Purolator ONE or BOSS.

While Toyota filters are not known for excellent efficiency, they do seem to have good quality control and are made well. Take that for what it's worth.

Generally the 2GR- series engines are very robust and long-lived. I don't think filter choice is going to greatly affect lifespan as long as it's decently made and reasonably efficient. The sheer numbers of high-mileage 2GRs running every-day filters means it can't be THAT important.

Been using 27047 for years without issues, see my sig. I'm not sure what your location is @Enthusiast , but WM has some well built ST9972 available for less than three bucks. I wish those were available in Canada, TBH.

The Toyota oil filters will let the engine out last your ownership of the vehicle if you run a good syn and do not let the oil change interval go too long for the oil used.

If u find it, I have been using the unicorn tear Fram Ultra XG9972 made with 100% synthetic media. They were $9 on Amazon until Fram switched to a synthetic blend media and made Endurance FE9972 the premium filter.

I also bought several Walmart ST9972 @ $3 with a 10K rating and the construction looks similar to the old-school Fram Ultra filter except for the media. If u are doing a 5K OCI, I would do go Walmart over OEM Toyota because of the wire backing.

By definition don’t OE filters meet OE specifications?

This is a TRD premium filter: synthetic media and perforated center tube instead of a Fram wire back. OE Toyota filters lack the solid end caps with o-ring and some type of back support.
