Went looking at new Corolla's with/for a buddy. Nope, not happening.

This is a base Corolla with hubcaps!

He's now looking at Civics and the Kia K4.
You can easily find a dealer online that does not charge stupid fees. I avoid the ones who play stupid games, as those dealerships are for dummies.

West Kendall Toyota has an internet special, Corolla LE, $22,710. Email them.

Why new? A used or Pre-owned 2024 with low mileage would always fit the bill. It will still smells new. Lots of them on dealer lots or Carmax

Go to another dealership. They can’t be the only Toyota dealership around.
Trying to go shooting with a Toyota dealership that will negotiate online. That’s how I bought several of my vehicles.

Ummm... Isn't that who we're discussing?

If there is significant savings then yes. But in a lot of cases I have seen 1-3 year old Corollas and Civics that are priced only $1000 or 2000 less than new. So it makes no sense to buy used in those cases when it’s such a minor difference and with new you get the full factory warranty and the opportunity to take care of it your way from brand new.

The added sticker is enough for me to turn around and walk out of that dealership. It's indicative of the forthcoming games they will be playing. All though like Utah-I hear Florida is a horrible place to buy a vehicle-so finding another dealer that doesn't play this game could be difficult..

Don't the Southeast Toyota dealers have a bad reputation compared to Toyota dealers elsewhere around the USA? Something to do with franchising I've heard?
I believe that is correct. I think the only solution was driving north of Georgia and buying there. If you're in that world, might as well do a ~1,500 mile search; fly > buy > drive home.

ETA: I recon COSTCO or similar car buying service is out in this region... I guess you could change your COSTCO address to a family members not in the region and use their service from there (Again: Fly > Buy > Drive home)

If you email them, and deal with the internet saleperson, you don't get ripped off.
Let me fix that for you:

If you email them, and deal with the internet salesperson, you MIGHT NOT get ripped off AS BADLY.

I'm sorry. When a dealer acts like this, I have little confidence in anything that they do, either through the front door of the dealership, or through the internet. If they're this bold with the sleezy upcharges... run.

I wish there was some kind of public shaming service like local news that would pay attention and report this stuff.
It's called jalopnik and the autopian are happy to publish and shame dealerships with high/ridiculous mark up fees. I'm sure one of the local new stations would be happy to show this off. One did back east and the dealership manager slugged the reporter getting himself a one way trip to jail. Last year a Nissan dealership sold a kid a 370z "as is" but it had been gutted and had no catalytic converters on it. All it took was a quick news piece and the dealership immediately was "happy" to refund all of his money.

This is how we felt.

Mazda3 is a great car for the money, very reliable and does not drive like an econo box.
The base model has 16 inch wheels.
Lots of end of year clearance sales on Mazda3.

Corolla will definitely get best gas mileage.

Maybe look for a used Corolla… ?

There's a Mazda dealership right next door to the Toyota one, but he went to Kia and Honda today, I believe.

This. I’m not even considering looking at Toyotas because of this
It's the fault of the dealer not Toyota. All manufacturers have dealers that do this. I see this with farm equipment as well, and tech distributors I deal with at work. I wouldn't buy a different vehicle only because of a bad dealer, I'd simply find a different dealer with the same car if I liked the vehicle.
