Just got this in my inbox, it is from "thisistrue.com", a great little subscription for those interested in just how whacked-out some people are....

Quote:
COMPETITIVE SHOPPING -- HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION: The "Black Friday" start to
the holiday shopping season got off to a bang as shoppers tried to be
first to get limited merchandise at the Walmart store in the Porter
Ranch section of Los Angeles, Calif. Just after it opened its doors,
about 100 people streamed in to vie for video games. "People started
screaming, pulling and pushing each other," one witness said, "and then
the whole area filled up with pepper spray." Apparently, one woman used
the spray to push back other shoppers, and then moved to "gain
preferred access to a variety of locations in the store," said Los
Angeles Fire Dept. Capt. James Carson; fire paramedics were called in
to render first aid to at least 20 victims of her spray. "She was
competitive shopping," Carson said. The woman later turned herself in
to police, who have declined to identify her as they research what
charges might be filed against her. (RC/Los Angeles Times) ...Her
trainer at U.C. Davis, meanwhile, says he is "very proud of her."

The Walmart in my town has a huge police presence on Black Friday. I don't allow my family to shop at Walmart on Black Friday due to the shoppers lack of etiquette.

I saw that the day it happened.
I used to black friday at bestbuy back when they had good sales.

I particularly remember bodychecking some punk who tried to run from his car at the last second and cut the 300 person line at the door. He flew into the door and knocked the door off the snap hinges then got trampled by a bunch of women. Then got snagged by the police and made to stand there till the line had all entered.(my gf told me later)

I have been knocked to the floor and trampled by 50 year old fat women... trying to rip items I was carrying out of my hands. I'm 6'2" 170lb....

black friday turns normal people into TOTAL ANIMALS.

Why not just wait for Cyber Monday and do your shopping online ?

Thats what I did this year. No long lines, no jerks, no waiting at register to pay, no hassles looking for a parking space,....etc.

I have never Black friday shopped, and only last year even heard of cyber monday.. I have always just waited for a low traffic week day and shopped all my gifts in one day.. This year i got smarter and ive done 90% of my shopping on Amazon.. sure im paying a little more compared to the friday prices, but i dont have any battle scars.. and this year i wont even have time wasted in stores.. im hooked,

I have always been a little individualistic. Not being a herd animal, I have no urge to join mobs on Black Friday.

On the other hand, I know people who think I am insane for not wanting to do just that.

I have never bought Pet Rocks, Cabbage Patch Dolls, or stuff like that. LOL!!!

PET ROCKS RULE!!!
The best pet I ever had. Never had to clean up poopie and it was cheap to feed. Too bad when I went to work my wife told me it ran away when she opened the door to get the mail.

I've gone a few times, just to watch the people. I bought a few really cheap Garmins four years back. They were door-busters, but the Best Buy I went to (at 0930) found a stack in the back and literally put them down in front of me!

The first year I went, the Victoria's Secret opened late by 15 minutes. After ten minutes, the ladies waiting began shaking the chain barrier in agitation. When they lifted the barrier, around 20 women who just happened to be walking by at the time gained access to the wide-open store at the same time as the ladies who were waiting. I believe the hook had something to do with free panties with every purchase...

+1 to a point. ive had people scoff at me for not standing in line for hours to get the super deals, my normal reply is "i make a decent living, id rather pay a higher price and shop with low traffic and comfort v.s. save a few bucks and freeze and get beat up".. a bit of a exageration but a honest anser.

Imagine that. The WalMart shopper mentality combined with Black Friday, and it somehow erupts in violence. Who would have guessed something like that might happen?

My friend's birthday was on Nov 28 so I was thinking I should go out and buy something for her. Instead I stayed home and made her a little homemade something to avoid the crazy shopping masses.

Took me a while to make it, pushed other projects back but it was worth it.

Did go back to walmart after the shopping frenzy to pickup several gallons of oil though.

You couldn't pay me to go anywhere near a store like WalMart running Black Friday campaigns. NOT!

Great, now my Alma Mata is famous for pepper spray, but at least people now knows about its existence.

People are animals, maybe worse. Self destructive too.

I just hope that wal-mart is paying enough in taxes to cover the fully burdened rate of the police who have to be there.

If the woman was being assaulted, Id be proud of her protecting herself via the pepper spray situation. But in the words of Warner Wolf, "let's go to the video tape" and see the situation. Most rules are off on Black Friday because of the mobs. This woman may have been as aggressive and troublesome in the mob as anyone else...

In Canada, if 2 people grab for an item at the same time they say:

"Excuse me, am I in your way??"
"Oh, no, I wanted that last item but you were certainly there first"
"No, no, no.. you take it"
" No, you can have it"

.
.
.
. "Let's leave it, the next person can surely use it more than us"

"Excellent idea.. Merry Christmas !!"
"And a Happy Holiday to you as well, my friend"

I generally try to avoid Walmarts all together. Just the thought of going into one on a black Friday, or shopping on a black Friday is unappealing.

If you really need to save the extra few bucks that badly you shouldn't be shopping all together. I rather just buy what I want when no one is around.

Amazon is my favorite store, even for stupid things. I rather just click a few times and have it show up at my door a few days later, rather than having to deal with people.

If that is the case then the RV haulers that come here from Canada to take RV's back sure don't have that courtesy on the roads here in Northern Indiana.

Umm, maybe in rural Saskatchewan but then there's no Walmart there either. I haven't set foot in a Walmart in a couple years now but I don't think our Walmart shoppers would be much different than the US ones.
