Valvoline Restore and Protect Fuel System Cleaner??

Thinking I will alternate chemistry - keep using the PEA type on last tank before oil change - and use the Valvoline product mid-way. We are not high mileage drivers - (within OLM) - so it’s not allot of money.

I have been debating dosing my CRV which I had just filled up with my last bottle of Techron. Wonder if Valvoline has anything to say about using it in conjunction with a traditional PEA cleaner. 🤔

Valvoline Restore and Protect oil and fuel system cleaner are becoming the OxI-Clean of the auto industry. If only Billy Mays was still alive to make their commercials.
Opportunity for LSJr ?
J/K … he’s getting hammered too much here …

Besides fuel injectors, what will Valvoline Restore and Protect Fuel System Cleaner work on? Could it help the fuel pump or any sludge accumulation, if possible, in the fuel lines?

Also, how would you be able to confirm the cleaner works? Flow test the injectors before and after using the cleaner?

Another way is to borescope intake valves/top of pistons, and fuel injector area before and after. There's a video of SI-1 doing great cleaning on near the fuel injector and top of pistons using this method.

Now, I want to try it but I'll need 2 bottles. One for each running car. Not in a rush though. Have enough SI, PI, B12 and Gumout for a while. Maybe when I'm bored I'll stop by my local AZ.

monitor mpg?

An mpg increase shouldn't be the purpose of using a FSC. Moreover, there's far too many variables that affect mpg to link its delta back to the most recent FSC you used:
For those of you who rate your fuel selections based on the MPG you got running a specific brand, I assume you have measured and adjusted for the other variables that affect fuel consumption, such as:
  • Tire pressure
  • Tire alignment
  • Engine temperature
  • Acceleration/braking pattern
  • Percent short trips
  • Idling time
  • Gasoline BTU variations
  • Engine condition/maintenance
  • Road type & conditions
  • Aerodynamic drag
  • Air conditioning usage
  • Seasonal gas formulations
  • Air temperature
  • Air humidity
  • Gasoline temperature
  • Tire type
  • Consistency of fill
  • Altitude changes
  • Vehicle weight
  • Computer MPG accuracy
  • Octane rating/accuracy
  • Hilly terrain
  • Air filter condition
  • Traffic jams

Borescoping for deposits will be the better litmus.

Anyone know if this'll be available at Advance Auto? Doesn't look like they're stocked at all for the AAPs or O'Reilly's 'round me.

Found 2 bottles at AutoZone and added 1 to Toyota and one in the Ford. I'll update any conclusions.

Now what am I supposed to with my Gumout Multi System I bought on sale, my BG44k and some Berryman's?

I think I used the Gumout Regane's, haven't bought Techron in a long time.

@Carguy2427 I am in another thread discussing Chevron gas with Techron (PEA). It just occurred to me that I dumped the Restore and Protect in a fresh tank of Chevron gas (with Techron)... Does this void my car's extended warranty? /Satire

Just curious if the two will compete with each other and negate cleaning, or if this could result in even better cleaning?

The better the base fuel, the better any additive will work so the 2 would just compliment each other. All top tier fuels are going to have some detergency package to them, the question is how much. Most gasoline companies claiming cleaners add the least amount to be able to claim it, but it definitely helps keep the engine cleaner over the long term if continually using top tier detergency gasoline.

I had to run to hardware store a bit further away. A different Autozone is on the way but normally out of my way, they have 3 bottles. Shelf space allotted correctly.

If I wasn't on BITOG I probably would not have known about Valvoline Restore and Protect Fuel System Cleaner yet but that was the same with the Restore and Protect oil. Granted it's only at Autozone currently but I haven't seen any marketing for it with test results and comparison etc like the Piston pictures. I also haven't looked so unless a popup or YouTube prompt hits me I might not. I don't watch TV if they still advertise there. My wife and kids stream most things so there is also that.

Techron and Gumout are better known and also in more places. The yellow new just doesn't grab me anywhere near as fast as "BUY 1, GET 1 FREE" or "2 for $11". I did just throw one of my bottles in my Accord and topped off with 3 gallons of some Shell V-power Nitro. I had to fill my 2 gallon gas can for the snowblower so already had pump going.

Autozone wont let new items go on promo for a certain period of time to get the promo stickers...unfortunately

Did you happen to take a photo? I went to 4 stores and they are all perfect. Id love to have a photo to send to our contacts at AutoZone.
I did not. The person helping me was pulling them out from the back. I did notice he had his hand in a ways and moving the bottles out from behind others. He then brought them over to me. Although looking at some of the photos posted here it appears that the slot where the bottles go into some are allowing product to only be placed in sideways anyway.

I really have no idea if fuel dilution is something that can be fixed with FSC or running premium oil (Amsoil, HPL,Valvoline Restore and Protect) or if it's simply just a byproduct of Direct injection in high HP/boost engines. But WE WILL SEE.
Can only be fixed with more frequent oil changes or thicker oil to combat the viscosity loss. I think Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 would be my choice or a VW 504 oil like Mobil 1 ESP 0w30.
