Honestly, I can't say I have noticed a huge difference between any car brand quality. Keep in mind though every car I have ever owned (except most recently) had 100K or more when I bought it.
I have owned a few each of chevy, toyota, honda, ford, Also one each of mitsubishi, subaru. I have had 3 total engine failures: Toyota Celica (I was revving it kinda high, but not redlinging it), Chevy 305 (Ran it out of oil), and the Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo (Not sure what cause it, maybe rod bearing). I have had 2 transmission failures, the Mitsu (1st gear only went bad so I swapped the tranny), and the Subaru tranny went bad, there was an oil leak in tranny that leaked on the clutch, I drove it anyway till it died).
But anyway, the quality differences are getting slimmer and slimmer everyday, for the most part.
I also hear about quite a few Toyotas, Honda's and Acura's that are late model, yetburn oil. Then there is VW, I won't even go there.
Instead of being really big on one brand, I look for the best overall value, and what my needs are.
My most recent purchase was a 2001 Ford Taurus with 86K on it for $5500, about 1.5 years ago. Tha is pretty ________ hard to beat. We just needed something basic, low maintenance, and a 4 door. Yeah they have trannies that break, but it's only about $2k to replace a tranny, then you're good for at least anothe 100k.
