I have a 2001 GTI 1.8T with 40K miles. I am going to do an oil change soon and wanna know if any other additive is recommended to do at this milage for a turbo engine? I drive pretty aggressively and do a few track events a year, our winters are not that cold though.

I was mostly interested in some of the Lubro Moly products namely MOS2 ANTI-FRICTION http://www.hopefungautoparts.com/MoS2.jpg

also MotorProtect Engine Treatment
http://www.hopefungautoparts.com/LMmotorprotect.htm

and a fuel additive Lubro Moly VENTIL SAUBER

Any ideas?

Use a good oil for a gas turbo engine and no additives are required.

Redline, M1, Amsoil come to mind.

If you are itching to add something, run an AutoRx clean. When complete, run Lube Control in the oil and I can highly recommend Fuel Power in the gas tank for a turbo.

Alex B,

I tried both products MotorProtect and MoS2 Antifriction Treatment. It didn't make any difference in performance or a gas mileage. I wish I didn't use either of these products. MoS2, as I later found out, might be even harmful for engines in some cases. I have a paper from Mercedes engineers which clearly says "do not use MoS2 in your car anywhere; its performance and benefits are highly questionable if not harmful". As for MotorProtect I also highly doubt that it does any good.

As Pablo said, you would be better off using synthetic oils from Redline, Amsoil, or Mobil 1.

LubeControl and AutoRX are products available from site sponsors. I can't tell you anything about them or recommend either of products because I haven't used these. Now I know better that if you run a good synthetic oil with a reasonable maintanance schedule you don't have to use any additives. You can run fuel injector cleaner from Redline (SI-1), FuelPower, or Techron from Chevron. I can tell you from personal experience that Redline's product helps (and price is also good - 1/2 of the Techron).

T_A,

Could you give a bit more detail on this paper please. I have been looking for empirical evidence of the effects of MoS2 used in engine oil and would be interested in the details.

DavoNF,

I posted the paper in section Interesting Articles. Here is another quote which I found in one paper regarding solid lubricants:

Strong covalent bonds link atoms together into sheets. These, being linked by weak Van der Waals bonds, slide easily over each other like a deck of cards. However, for this to work in practice, other factors are required. Graphite only gives low friction in the presence of gases or liquids which absorb at the edges of the sheets. MoS2 oxidises easily to MoO3, so only works under conditions which prevent its oxidation.

As mentioned above just stick with a quality synthetic. No need to add supplements to an already good oil.
