It appears that they've developed a method to apply the fleece material to the synthetic fiber/cellulose blend media - sort of marrying the Tough guard and the Ultra while reducing the cost of production. I'm not sure that the dirt holding capability will remain the same and honestly don't see the advantage of this filter over the Tough Guard when factoring cost.
What I was wondering is if the Fram Titanium sold at Advance Auto Parts is going to retain the metal screen? If so that will be my go-to filter from now on, otherwise I'm going to be looking for the metal screen Fram Ultras and start hoarding them.
Too bad the bean counters at Mann-Hummel have ruined Wix too, someone posted one here a few months ago that looked like it was a purolator filter and it had burrs in the threads and burrs on the underside of the oil inlet holes. I guess we might as well all just go to using cheap champ e-cores or extragaurds.
I talked with Fram and basically got the run around…just going to switch to the extra guard. What filter companies don’t realize is that there are people who open filters and see changes
I use that very same XG 7317 filter for both cars and just changed the oil and filter on the MDX the other day. I just checked the other filter box for the RDX and sure enough, it’s the new version. Disappointed to say the least.
