The furthest you’ve driven, straight on through

We do Boston to Southport, NC at least 5x a year only stopping in NJ and VA for gas. It's 950 miles and take about 14hrs.

Montgomery Alabama to Victorville, California, about 2000 miles. I drove almost exclusively. Had a partner that drove about 3 hours, but I had to relieve him early - he jerked the wheel or ran into the dots about every time I started to sleep and I could not take the adrenaline hits any more. Plus we had just passed another car coming eastbound at us in the #1 lane in the fog. Wrong way driver on the freeway tends to wake you up. Good thing we were in the slow lane, or things would have gotten all red and wet.

We left Maxwell AFB at 0935 Friday and rolled into Victorville at 1800 Saturday. Six weeks TDY and our wives were home waiting for us. Needless to say, we had a sense of urgency. Not bad timing considering the national 55 mph speed limit at the time. Now, if I make a 500 or 600 mile trip I want a day to rest after it.

My wife and I have done Tremonton, UT to Lincoln, NE a couple times. It's just over 900 miles and takes about 13 hours. Since my wife isn't big on driving on road trips, I do almost all the driving. Not too bad of a drive if you have a comfortable car.

Twenty years ago when I was much younger, friends from church had told us about driving straight through from South Carolina to Utah. They would spell off the driving, and one family claimed they could make it in about 28 hours. We decided if they could do it, we could. We only made it to Cheyenne, WY before we gave out and got a motel room for a few hours to rest up. 1674 miles. And no, we didn't make Utah in 28 hours. Not counting the motel stop, it took us 36 hours to make Cheraw, SC to Brigham City, UT. I would never do that again.

Furthest in one day: about 1,200 miles, only stopping for gas, food, and restroom breaks.

Furthest without stopping at all: Just over 400 miles (Denver, CO to Salina, KS). Just about a full tank of gas. I was a younger man back then, I don't ever want to try that again.
1,200 miles in one day is something I can’t even imagine doing. Wow.

I drove from New Hampshire to Charleston, South Carolina. Not sure I would or could do a drive like that again.

Wife and I went 1305 miles in 20.5 hours from Columbus, OH to Key West, FL.
She regularly drives 560 miles from central Ohio to Brooklyn, NYC to visit her parents. She will sometimes take a Friday off, leave work on Thursday and drive to NYC and leave to go back home early Sunday afternoon.

She can sleep when I'm at the wheel, but it's rare I can sleep as a passenger. She doesn't wear a seat belt when shes reclined.

That’s insane. I don’t know what’s crazier...the trip to Key West, or your wife regularly driving to visit her parents like that. Wow.

The furthest I've ever driven is from the Ontario border south of Ottawa (via somewhere in New York state where the road sign said New York city this way) to Gary Indiana, in a 1978 Ford Fiesta. We were broke in those days so we didn't have a road map and avoided toll roads, so I'm not exactly sure where we went. We were young and hoped to camp along the way but angry looking clouds kept piling up and there were regular tornado warnings on the radio so we just kept going. By the time we got to Gary I was too tired to go any further. It was really late at night and we just stopped at the next motel. In the morning we found we were in a pretty rough area (barbed wire along the top of the chain link fence around the motel). That was about 18 - 19 hours of continuous driving with only bathroom breaks and stops for gas. That was quite a memorable drive!

My longest documented single day drives are from Edmonton to the ferry terminal at Tsawwassen BC, which is 1150 - 1175 Km. We used to drive that quite regularly in 11 1/2 to 12 hours with only bathroom breaks, fuel stops and a 15 minute nap after lunch (which was brought along and eaten in the car).

My longest drive was from Winnipeg Manitoba to Harlingen Texas (+/- 3000 km) in 3 consecutive days of driving.
Wow, 18-19 hours of continuous driving. That’s insane.

A week ago I took the kids up to see Stephen King’s house in Bangor Maine...a good 400 miles round trip. I thought...why am I doing this?? 6 hours in the car to see his house and a few spots around town where some of his films were shot. It wasn’t a bad experience, but certainly not worth 6 hours in a car. But hey, it’s summer, not like there’s a lot of things on the menu this summer.

Disney World to my front door, google says 10 hours 45 minutes. I swear it felt like 20 hours after a week of lugging the kids around in the sun.
Yeah, I did the whole week in Disney thing...felt like a marathon. I needed a vacation from that vacation. Did it in June - it must have been 95 degrees with 100% humidity every day - they let you bring in your own water in your backpack...it weighed so much that I had the bright idea to go without one day. Big mistake. We only made it an hour before we had to buy water/drinks. Think I spent $100 on drinks that day - Mickey the mouse really got me good - by 1:00 in the afternoon we were out of there, spent, exhausted. I don’t think I’ll ever ever go back to Disney. Haha.

Cent Cal to Tucson,Az, 10/11 hrs stopped twice for gas and food, beautiful drive going thru the desert.

Houston to Oklahoma City and back again. Something like 14 hours/900 miles. Went to bring my daughter to stay with her grandparents. Drove up there, stopped once for gas, once for food, was at the inlaws house for 15 minutes unpacking, fueled up and drove non-stop back home in one tank. ,
Katy to Lubbock ... .
Did that drive once (and back again 2 days later) and that is a boring drive.

22 hours/~1300 miles from the Grand Tetons to Mount Rushmore then back home in IL. I drank ALOT of redbull that day.

Friend and I did 19 hours straight from Chicago to the Grand Tetons a couple years ago.

I regularly do the 10 hour (~600 miles one way) to the Smokeys or 15 hour (1,300 one way) Rocky Mountain NP straight.

Although it doesn't count for this, my personal best was Chicago -> Acadia -> NYC -> Niagara -> Chicago in 3 days and 3 hours of sleep. I don't recommend it though, this was the trip that made me take sleep deprivation seriously.

I did Jax, Fl., to eastern Pa. or return, straight through, a number of times in the early to mid 70's. About 900 miles. If all went well it could be done in about 16-17 hours. I-95 was not yet completed in parts of SC. and Ga. On one trip north, I ran into increasingly bad weather with sleet and the thickest fog I have attempted to drive in. With my head out the window. That trip took 24 hrs. straight. I slept for about 16 hours on arrival. Never again.
