Straight grade oil users

I have some Delo SAE30 and a decent amount of Castrol HD30 that I use in some of my Jeeps. Most of the SAE30 closeouts happened years ago, so my 30 stash has depleted. I scored big time during the PP10W30 closeut ($3.65/jug), so I haven't hunted for SAE30 in a while.

I was a straight grade disciple for much of my life. I'm also old enough to remember getting a choice in bias ply or those newfangled radial tires too.

I believe members Red91 and Userfriendly are big monograde users.

Given my warm climate, I could run a SAE30 monograde year round, I just wished they sold them at a reasonable price around me. Right now Castrol GTX 15W40 UltraClean (SN & A3/B3) is on sale at $20 for 5L, while the cheapest monograde I can get is Valvoline SAE30 API-SG mower oil at about $35. Hard to spend more for the lower spec oil.

You guys in the States get modern API-SN monogrades, like Pennzoil conventional SAE30, I so would like to get some of that stuff, I would run it in an instant.

Was talking to real dad other day. He was mentioning years ago folks would use straight grades then things evolved. Anyone here use straight grade oils in stuff like compressors, etc?
Straight 30 non detergent in compressors. Not often but sometimes HD-30 in the lawn mower. Non detergent 30 to moisten foam air cleaners.

I remember when firestone had oil change specials with SAE 30 in south Texas this was the mid 90s94 or 95. I ran it in my 1992 pontiac sun chicken with the 3.1. And three speed auto

I don't think monogrades have all the proper add packs for car engines since there is not huge market for them. Could be wrong.
they sell them for lawnmowers, etc.
If they sold them for cars I may try a high hths 25W25 in the summer. High hths 25 is the lowest I would go.

I used to run SAE 30 SJ/CD oil in my first Gen Honda CRV for couple OCIs. The engine ran pretty smooth without any issue. The engine otherwise saw full synthetic 5w-40 in most of its life. I sold the car at 360,000 km and it’s still running strong at that time.

Some do man.

Coastal API SN and Warren Oil SN are 2 I have seen that current API approvals. There are others out there as well. Valvoline and Castrol have HD that are API SN has well.

I run straight 30 in my generator and I’m thinking about running it in my new side by side that specs sae30, 5w30,10w30 or 15w40 based on lowest temperatures you operate it in.

Use 30wt ND in the 28 Chevy doodlebug tractor. Stopped using straight weight in the air cooled maybe 10 years ago when noticing a hot drain poured out like water. The 28 runs cool with no provisions for a tstat.
